Block is assembling a world-class AI team and hiring a Principal Engineer to design, architect, build, and own autonomous agents and agentic workflows that deliver business value across Square, Cash App, and Block ecosystem. Responsibilities include shipping production agents, designing agent orchestration systems (planning, tool use, memory, multi-agent coordination), optimizing LLMs in agent architectures, driving model optimization (fine-tuning, distillation, RLHF), and providing technical mentorship. Located in Bay Area, CA. Requires 15+ years software engineering or ML experience, production experience building autonomous agents or agentic workflows (not prototypes), and fluency in agent primitives, LLMs, tool use, and retrieval systems.
