OpenAI's Data Center Engineering team is hiring a mid-to-senior OT Network Engineer to design and scale controls and operational technology network architectures for high-density AI data centers. You'll own the full lifecycle of OT network strategy—from defining requirements and reference architectures through design, validation, commissioning, and operations—working across mechanical, electrical, IT, security, and external teams to support GPU deployments and campus-wide telemetry. Key responsibilities include designing resilient OT/IT network topologies, developing operational standards and commissioning plans, evaluating vendors and equipment, troubleshooting complex controls network issues, and ensuring alignment with industrial communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA, IEC-61850, etc.). You'll need 8+ years in controls engineering, OT networking, or critical infrastructure with hands-on expertise in Layer 2/3 network design, industrial redundancy protocols (PRP, HSR, RSTP), industrial networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Rockwell, Siemens), and OT monitoring platforms—plus a bachelor's in electrical, computer, or network engineering. The role requires periodic travel to data centers, labs, and construction sites for commissioning and testing, including work during time-sensitive startup and operational events; preferred qualifications include a master's degree, networking certifications (CCNA/CCNP), cybersecurity credentials, network automation experience, and familiarity with AI-assisted troubleshooting tools.
