Pharmacist Supv (Outpt)

The Outpatient Pharmacist Supervisor is responsible for the professional and administrative management of pharmacy distributive and outpatient operations include budgetary execution. Responsible for supervising all clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians assigned to this area. Develops performance standards, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities. Administrative and Supervisory - Provides first-line personnel management and assists Pharmacy service leadership when intervention may be warranted. - Provides first-line coordination and oversight for pharmacist and technician work activities, including staff leave and scheduling, staff work assignments, order verification processes, preparation of sterile and non-sterile products, solid and liquid unit-dose preparation, veteran and non-veteran customer services, and regulatory compliance regarding medication control and security. - Monitors and provides first-line oversight of all pharmacy work-related activities (e.g., provider order entry activities, patient counseling I medication reconciliation activities, prepackaging, controlled substance processing, etc.) and works with pharmacy leadership to adjust staffing and personnel assignments based on workload needs. - Makes recommendations to pharmacy administration regarding system-related changes that might enhance departmental productivity and/or veteran patient care services. - Monitors and supports pharmacy compliance with existing regulatory rules, laws and standards. - Assists in the recommendation, drafting and implementation of departmental policies and procedures. - Is responsible for the security of the assigned area particularly as it relates to controlled substances. Incumbent helps to ensure departmental and medication security, including controlled substances as required by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Drug Enforcement Agency. Helps to monitor and ensure compliance with the departments and hospital's policies and procedures. - Communicates and coordinates with purchasing and inventory control personnel to ensure appropriate communication and adequate stock inventory based on prescription volume. - Recommends to leadership a full range of personnel actions such as promotions, placements, counseling, disciplinary actions, ratings, etc. - Provides workflow coordination and supervisory oversight within a framework that is conducive to good performance and high-morale. Promotes a zero tolerance environment when it comes to sexual harassment and hostile work environment issues. - Assumes responsibility for ensuring the cleanliness of the assigned area and advises on space needs and requirements. Operational - The incumbent is expected to work daily as a pharmacist to support workload and operational goal achievement as required. - Supports provider order entry verification and patient counseling as required. Educational - Helps to orientate new employees in overall procedures and activities of the Pharmacy. - Assists with the training responsibilities for Pharmacy residents and students during their rotational period. General - Helps to interview and recommend candidates for employment - Performs other duties as assigned and deemed essential to the efficient operation of the Pharmacy Department. Incumbent may be required to periodically work irregular shifts as required and may occasionally be called back in emergencies. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; or as required for Outpatient Pharmacy operation. Telework: Ad Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
