POSITION:  Spare Customer Service Unit/ Crew Management Centre 
REPORTS TO:  Customer Service Supervisor

REFERENCE:  100-93-27 
RATE OF PAY:  $27.86 - $30.94 hourly (Increases set out as per the Collective 
Agreement.  Full rate effective after 1 year of service).

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: 
The Spare provides operational and administrative relief across terminals, primarily in Englehart. 
This role ensures continuity of service by supporting crew scheduling, customer communications, 
and yard inventory processes, while maintaining accurate records and upholding safety 
standards. 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• Maintain timely and accurate railcar event records in the RMI system, including received 
and delivered interchanges, placements, releases, pulls, delays, holds, rejects, bad 
orders, arrivals, and departures, through communication with internal departments, local 
customers, and interchanging railroads 
• Provide operating crews with switching requirements for local customers and mechanical 
bad order repairs/releases 
• Communicate timely and accurate yard inventory by coordinating with yard operating 
crews and conducting occasional yard audits (yard checks); participate in group reviews 
for continuous improvement 
• Assist in formalizing processes and communication methods specific to Englehart 
operations and other terminals 
• Provide relief coverage for the Crew Management Centre, Customer Service Unit, and 
Terminal Support Worker in Englehart and other terminals as required 
• Call all train crew employees (USW-Agreement #8) for assignments including freight and 
passenger trains, yard assignments, recrews, rescues, work trains, and away-from-home 
crew calls 
• Track and record train crew employee mileage 
• Monitor and record work/rest hours of duty 
• Advertise and award temporary and permanent train crew job vacancies 
• Maintain crew calling records manually and electronically 
• Provide information to train crew employees via telephone, fax, and electronic formats 
• Maintain staff records 
• Perform janitorial duties as required 
• Perform other related duties as assigned 
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
• Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or General Educational Development (GED) 
• 1–2 years of clerical experience 
• Proficient computer skills with strong keyboarding abilities 
• Dangerous Goods certification is considered an asset 
• Railway experience is considered an asset 
• Availability for shift work, including evenings and weekends 
• Previous cleaning experience is considered an asset 
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills 
• Strong organizational and time management abilities 
• Ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced setting 
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety practices
