With continuous learning, career growth, and a supportive culture, IBM provides the opportunities to build expertise and shape the infrastructure that drives progress. **Your role and responsibilities** The z/VM Development Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, enhancement, and maintenance of IBM's z/VM virtualization platform. This position requires a seasoned professional who can lead a team of skilled engineers in delivering innovative solutions for enterprise mainframe virtualization while ensuring product quality, performance, and customer satisfaction. The role combines deep technical expertise in z/VM architecture with strong people management and strategic planning capabilities. * Lead and mentor a team of z/VM software developers, managing performance and fostering career development while building a collaborative, high-performing culture. * Define and drive the technical roadmap for z/VM development initiatives, collaborating with product management and stakeholders to align priorities with business objectives. * Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality releases while driving continuous improvement in processes and methodologies. * Establish coding standards, testing practices, and quality metrics while monitoring z/VM performance, scalability, and reliability. * Partner with cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, and represent the team in design discussions and executive briefings. * Engage with customers and the z/VM community to gather feedback, promote innovation through research initiatives, and stay current with industry trends in virtualization and mainframe technologies. **Required technical and professional expertise** * 10+ years of software development experience with at least 5 years in technical leadership or management roles. • Deep Expertise in Software Development: Proven experience in designing, developing, testing, and delivering software offerings using the latest technologies, with a strong understanding of IBM Z systems. • Experience with Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead or participate in organization planning, providing leadership and support to ensure that business objectives are met, and fostering teamwork and inclusion across organizations, cultures, and geographies. • Strategic Business Acumen: Experience in driving business results, including meeting client satisfaction, productivity, financial, and other business measurements, with a strong understanding of IBM's strategic direction. • Talent Development and Management: Proven experience in advising and coaching employees to develop their skills and capabilities, establishing clear performance expectations, and holding people accountable for results. • Change Management and Innovation: Experience in supporting change, encouraging employees to innovate, evaluating suggestions, and removing obstacles to implementation, with a strong focus on enhancing IBM's climate and business results. **Preferred technical and professional experience** * Deep knowledge of z/VM architecture, components, and internals with strong programming skills in assembler, C, C++, or REXX. Solid understanding of mainframe operating systems (z/OS, z/VM, Linux on Z), virtualization concepts, hypervisors, and resource management. * Experience with system programming, kernel development, low-level debugging, and mainframe hardware architecture (IBM Z systems).
