Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Job Description:
Help keep critical infrastructure running where reliability really matters.
At DXC Technology, we deliver secure, business-critical technology services for some of the UK's most important organisations. We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our team in Luton, supporting a complex and highly secure environment where stability, resilience and continuous improvement are key.
This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll balance day-to-day operational support with project work, working across a broad range of infrastructure technologies. You'll play an important part in maintaining the health of the environment while helping to deliver upgrades, enhancements, and new capabilities.
If you enjoy solving technical challenges, working across diverse infrastructure platforms and being part of a collaborative engineering team, we'd love to hear from you. We're passionate about building diverse, inclusive teams and actively encourage applications from women, underrepresented groups, and neurodivergent candidates. If you need adjustments or support during the recruitment process, we'll be happy to help.
Due to the highly secure nature of this role, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance. To meet the current clearance requirements, applicants must be sole British Nationals who have lived and worked continuously in the UK for the past five years. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider dual nationals for this position.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and continually improving a secure enterprise infrastructure. Your work will include both BAU support and project delivery, ensuring services remain reliable, secure and available.
You'll be involved in:
Supporting, maintaining and improving a Virtual Desktop Environment using Citrix and VMware technologies.
Managing and maintaining Windows Server infrastructure, with some exposure to Linux environments.
Delivering infrastructure upgrades, patching and lifecycle management across multiple platforms.
Administering backup and recovery solutions using Veritas NetBackup and Cohesity.
Managing server patching activities using Shavlik.
Supporting licence management infrastructure.
Maintaining enterprise printing services.
Assisting with network switch configuration and infrastructure changes.
Participating in infrastructure projects from planning through to implementation.
Investigating and resolving technical incidents, identifying root causes and driving permanent improvements.
Working within established change management processes to ensure safe and controlled delivery.
Collaborating with colleagues across infrastructure, project and service teams to deliver the best outcomes for our customer.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who enjoys working across a broad infrastructure estate and is comfortable taking ownership of technical issues from investigation through to resolution.
You'll ideally bring:
Strong experience supporting enterprise Windows Server infrastructure.
Experience administering Virtual Desktop Environments using Citrix and VMware.
Knowledge of infrastructure patching, upgrades and ongoing platform maintenance.
Experience with backup technologies such as Veritas NetBackup and/or Cohesity.
Familiarity with server patching solutions such as Shavlik or similar products.
Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure services, including licensing and printing platforms.
Basic network switch configuration experience.
A good understanding of ITIL change management and controlled change processes.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
The ability to prioritise work across operational support and project delivery.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with technical teams and customers.
Experience with Linux infrastructure would be beneficial but isn't essential.
