Accountabilities:

    The Senior Engineer, FHIR will contribute to the design, development, testing, and delivery of healthcare technology platforms while helping teams build secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions. This role combines technical leadership, software engineering expertise, and healthcare domain knowledge.

    • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions supporting healthcare interoperability, reporting, and quality measurement initiatives.
    • Build and integrate RESTful APIs aligned with HL7 FHIR specifications and healthcare interoperability standards.
    • Develop and work with FHIR resources, including Measure, MeasureReport, Patient, Encounter, and Observation.
    • Apply strong software engineering practices across architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure technical solutions meet business and healthcare requirements.
    • Design comprehensive testing strategies, including functional, performance, security, and integration testing.
    • Improve automated testing processes to increase coverage, reliability, and deployment efficiency.
    • Support continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines from code commit through production release.
    • Identify and resolve technical issues, manage defects, and contribute to reducing technical debt.
    • Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and quality metrics throughout the software development lifecycle.
    • Work with healthcare data formats such as QRDA, C-CDA, and claims data to support regulatory reporting requirements.
    • Contribute to solutions involving digital quality measurement concepts, including electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQM) and digital Quality Measures (dQM).
    • Participate in Agile development processes and collaborate with engineering teams to continuously improve delivery practices.
    • Support compliance with healthcare regulations, security requirements, and government program standards.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with strong healthcare technology knowledge and expertise in interoperability standards. They should have a proven ability to build reliable applications, collaborate across teams, and solve complex technical challenges.

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 8+ years of software development experience.
      • Strong experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot.
      • Experience with at least two additional programming languages or frameworks such as Go, Python, Angular, TypeScript, or Java.
      • Hands-on experience with HL7 FHIR standards, including resources, profiles, and implementation guides.
      • Experience building or integrating RESTful APIs based on FHIR specifications.
      • Knowledge of FHIR R4 and healthcare interoperability patterns.
      • Experience working with FHIR servers such as HAPI FHIR or similar platforms.
      • Experience designing, consuming, and validating healthcare data resources.
      • Understanding of healthcare data quality, validation processes, and regulatory reporting requirements.
      • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
      • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, preferably Terraform.
      • Experience building and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines.
      • Strong relational database experience, particularly PostgreSQL or similar technologies.
      • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
      • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices.
      • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment.
      • Experience with healthcare reporting systems, CMS programs, or large-scale healthcare analytics platforms is preferred.
      • AWS certifications and experience with AWS services such as ECS Fargate, RDS, and S3 are a plus.
      • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and modern data platforms such as Databricks is preferred.
      • Ability to meet government security requirements, including eligibility for Public Trust clearance. Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents and have maintained US residency for the required period.
