Staff Software Engineer — Machine Learning, ETL & Data

About the Role

IQVIA is seeking an exceptional Staff Software Engineer / Technical Lead to join the strategic Customer360 (C360) program, a high-visibility initiative designed to consolidate healthcare professional (HCP) data across clinical, scientific, and digital domains into a unified AI-ready platform. The platform powers intelligent data products, semantic search experiences, APIs, agentic AI solutions, and advanced customer insights across IQVIA.

As the senior technical leader for the Brazil engineering hub, you will help define the technical direction of the platform while remaining deeply hands-on in software development, data engineering, and machine learning solutions. You will play a critical role in designing and building the profile-matching and enrichment capabilities at the core of C360, helping unify complex datasets through machine learning, graph-based techniques, and modern data engineering practices.

This is a leadership role where technical excellence, architectural vision, and hands-on contribution are valued more highly than people management responsibilities. The ideal candidate is an engineer who can lead by example, mentor others, and actively contribute to the platform every day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction and architectural evolution of the C360 platform.
  • Design and implement large-scale profile matching and entity resolution solutions.
  • Build and optimize machine learning and graph-based matching algorithms.
  • Develop and maintain large-scale ETL and data processing pipelines.
  • Design scalable data services and microservices supporting core platform capabilities.
  • Architect and implement data models supporting profile enrichment and intelligent search experiences.
  • Build AI-ready services exposing data through APIs, MCP-based integrations, and agentic AI workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership on platform strategy, scalability, and technical roadmaps.
  • Mentor engineers across multiple experience levels and promote engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical design discussions.
  • Support the development of a self-sufficient engineering organization in Brazil.
  • Contribute hands-on to software delivery, technical problem-solving, and critical platform initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • 7+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or machine learning experience.
  • Demonstrated success designing and building complex data-intensive platforms.
  • Experience operating at a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Technical Lead level.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple engineering disciplines.

Required Technical Skills

Software Engineering & Architecture

  • Expert-level Python development.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microservices and Distributed Systems Architecture.
  • RESTful API design and development.
  • Platform architecture and systems design expertise.
  • Experience building highly scalable software systems.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and design patterns.

Data Engineering

  • Apache Spark.
  • ETL and Data Pipeline Design.
  • Snowflake and/or Databricks.
  • Large-scale data processing and transformation.
  • Data modeling and data platform architecture.
  • Experience designing federated data models and integration architectures.

Machine Learning & Graph Technologies

  • Practical Machine Learning experience.
  • Strong understanding of Machine Learning algorithms.
  • Graph algorithms and graph-based problem solving.
  • Entity Resolution and Profile Matching techniques.
  • Data matching, enrichment, and identity resolution concepts.
  • Experience applying ML techniques to real-world business challenges.

Cloud & Platform Technologies

  • Azure or similar cloud platforms.
  • Docker and Kubernetes.
  • CI/CD practices and modern software delivery pipelines.
  • Data platform design and cloud-native architecture concepts.
  • Infrastructure fundamentals supporting large-scale applications.
