Sr. Materials Manager

What Will You Do?
As a Materials manager, you will hold direct accountability in materials results and administration for a materials team within the plant. This role will hold broad responsibility for Delivery Performance, Inventory, Material Control Process and Improvements, Supplier Planning and Performance Management, Inventory Control and warehouse management, Staffing for Salary and Indirect Materials team members, people development and profit planning / budgeting. Responsible to implement tools, systems and processes that improve operating efficiencies and reduce cost within plant and supporting supply chains.
How You Will Do It
Planning and Customer Delivery:
Lead short-term and mid-term scheduling activities, monitor and report on the accuracy of production plans and schedules.
Manage daily support of production needs such as expediting material, setting priorities and addressing supply issues to facilitate speedy availability for Raw Material, and eventually Finished Goods to meet customer demands.
Ensures that on-time delivery is tracked, and goals are met while supporting operation to manage at lowest possible cost and inventory.
Collaborate with Supply Planning Manager to manage capacity requirements planning.
Collaborate with Procurement to support material cost reduction goals for purchased parts.
Collaborate with Procurement in planning components and raw material from approved suppliers, including management of consignment and blanket PO programs.
Inventory Management:
Lead inventory control & planning activities including the coordination of:
Cycle counts and physical inventories
Receiving, Warehousing, and Shipping activities
Manage the identification and disposition of excess and obsolete inventory.
Coordinate scheduling and inventory movement for all outside processing inventory locations.
Warehouse and Logistics:
Manage transportation activities for both inbound and outbound freight according to Logistics approved carriers and financial policies and guidelines.
Responsible to ensure all warehouse operations have proper material handling equipment and resources to complete tasks on schedule and safely.
Coordinate with Supplier Quality group to set-up and maintain vendor quality acceptance processes.
Collaborate with Logistics for new carrier selections and contracts.
Systems and Reporting:
Maintain department KPIs in accordance with the plant established targets while maintaining quality at the lowest possible cost.
On time delivery
Inventory accuracy
Schedule attainment/adherence
Gross Inventory and Inventory Days on Hand
Transportation execution
Develop budget and manpower requirements for Inventory Control, Warehouse/Shipping/Receiving, Purchasing and Scheduling groups within the plant.
Materials Planning System Utilization - Uses the materials planning system to manage supply and demand plans taking long-term corrective action on exception messages and other alerts based on root cause analysis.
Manage occasionally tools such as Excel, Access, in performing problem solving, while leveraging the materials planning system as the primary tool in day-to-day operations.
Provides management direction and oversight to include overseeing day to day materiel control operations. This may include but not limited to inventory reporting, proper materiel storage, materiel receiving, shipping and preparation of all supporting documentation
Lead material planning activities to assure Production of just in time material flow. Implement Lean tools such as Kanban, one piece flow, two bin replenishment systems and have the full control for plan for every part
What are we looking for?
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field of study and 10+ years of Material Management experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production environment.
Experience with inventory forecasting, developing master production schedules, and reducing scheduling variances.
Extensive knowledge and experience with MRP and ERP systems.
Must be able to analyze and interpret complex technical procedures, business periodicals, and journals as well as write reports and procedure manuals.
Degree in Business or equivalent field. MBA preferred though not required. APICS Certification preferred though not required.
In-depth knowledge of computerized integrated information systems (manufacturing, materials management, production planning, procurement, and distribution) and a superior understanding of manufacturing material flow in a plant.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access)
Must be a proactive change agent and possess leadership skills to build and maintain a team-oriented environment.
Must have solid interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff and to interact with various departments throughout the organization.
