The Senior Chemist position in our Automotive division is responsible for supporting new product development by completing a variety of exciting activities related to toner development supporting the vehicle refinish segment.

This role is not hybrid and will be located at Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.
• Independently lead development projects of moderate to high complexity within the Automotive Toner Team.
• Complete product development project(s) within the defined project timelines.
• Lead the development of new products through experimental design, formulation optimization, scale-up, and commercialization activities.
• Develop and optimize pigment dispersion technologies to achieve targeted color, stability, rheology, and application performance requirements.
• Provide support to manufacturing and internal customers as requested.
• Prepare and test paint samples, analyze data and provide conclusions for path forward.
• Communicates with management, marketing, manufacturing, procurement, vendors and various business partners to ensure the successful commercialization of products; utilizes internal networks when possible
• Support and follow PCG Stage-Gate and Quality Systems.
• Work effectively in a multi-functional team environment.
• Provide training and guidance to 0 - 2 technicians and/or lower level chemists. Develop the technical skills of team members through on-the-job training.
• Achieve results through use of established laboratory and professional procedures.
• Maintain a safe work area through observance of all laboratory safety procedures and practices.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 5 years of coatings formulation experience.
• Waterborne coatings formulation experience.
• Experience with pigment dispersions.
• Expertise with structure-property relationship as it pertains to automotive refinish.
• Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to colors desired by customers.
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Masters Degree of higher in science related area
• 7 years of coatings formulation experience
• 3 years of Automotive experience
• Prior experience processing pigment dispersions
• Prior knowledge of Automotive polymers
• Demonstrating experience utilizing DFSS tools
• Experience operating paint processing equipment (mills)
• Project Leadership experience
