As a Buyer, you will be responsible for the purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and services. This role is responsible for supporting sourcing strategy development, executing negotiations, contributing to global material budget execution, and collaborating closely with suppliers and internal business partners. The position requires strong analytical capability, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage sourcing activities for productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and services.

  • Actively support the development and execution of commodity and sourcing strategies.

  • Execute sourcing and contracting activities, including bid list development, quote analysis, RFQ coordination, and supplier selection recommendations.

  • Maintain sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget tracking, and on-time performance metrics.

  • Ensure alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technical documentation, and quality requirements.

  • Manage sourcing documentation in compliance with GM Audit Services requirements and internal purchasing procedures.

  • Support direct material budget activities and contribute to global material budget execution.

  • Lead or support supplier relationship management initiatives and act as a focal point for commercial issue resolution.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align sourcing recommendations and mitigate supply chain disruptions.

  • Lead or represent the purchasing function in supplier KPI reviews and change management activities.

  • Adhere to corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices, policies, and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.

  • 2+ years of relevant post-graduate experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics, or product development.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data objectively and draw meaningful conclusions.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide relevant information clearly and in a timely manner.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain constructive, cooperative working relationships.

  • Foundational knowledge or demonstrated potential in negotiation, analytical thinking, results focus, and workload management.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with quality and urgency.

  • Ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commodities.

  • Cost analysis or manufacturing experience.

  • Automotive industry experience.

  • Knowledge of Capacity and Materials Management.

  • Ability to draw conclusions from complex data, market trends, and the regulatory environment.

  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers related to the applicable commodities.

  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to purchasing processes.
