Reporting to the Director, Airport Strategy and Development, this role establishes a single, integrated planning and modelling capability to support hub airport infrastructure, space, and capacity decisions. It translates network growth and operational requirements into demand‑versus‑capacity scenarios to inform airport master planning, capital prioritization, long-term infrastructure decisions and negotiations with airport authorities. The position ensures a consistent, data-driven view of infrastructure requirements, enabling early identification of capacity risks, sequencing constraints, and investment trade-offs, driving proactive engagement with airport authorities and strengthening decision-making and governance.

Responsibilities:

The incumbent is responsible for providing crucial modelling inputs into master planning and infrastructure phasing for both hub and other network airports. This involves maintaining a comprehensive database that captures airport processing capacity, infrastructure, and a wide range of operational and space requirements.

Capacity Planning and Forecasting

  • Translates operational schedules, passenger data, and process changes into forward-looking forecasts for capacity and airport space demand.
  • Participates in the planning and optimization of Air Canada’s owned facilities, leveraging other databases and intelligence, modelling and space demand analysis to assess current and future utilization, and to proactively identify capacity constraints, underutilization opportunities, and spatial optimization levers across the portfolio
  • Develops scenario models—including growth, consolidation, automation, and process evolution—to test feasibility and inform management decision-making.
  • Establishes space standards and programming logic to ensure consistency and right-sizing across airport areas.

Decision Support and Executive Engagement

  • Produces decision-grade options to support executive governance and airport negotiations.
  • Delivers dashboards and executive-ready outputs to enable effective prioritization and investment decisions.

Modelling, Analysis, and Evaluation

  • Build and maintain simulation models for passenger processing and gating
  • Performs varied tasks including data collection and analysis, as well as the design of models, methods, and simulations.
  • Conducts detailed and rigorous quantitative analyses.
  • Evaluates the impact of current and future process developments at airports, assessing how these complement or inhibit Air Canada’s growth strategy.

Strategic Guidance and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provides direction and guidance on network planning strategy and the long-range plan.
  • Provide detailed analysis to develop overall airport strategies, consolidating commercial, customer service, and financial objectives.
  • Interfaces with governmental agencies to understand changes and new processes, integrating these into simulation models.

Project Participation and Process Analysis

  • Participates in working groups dedicated to airport and terminal redevelopment projects, with a clear understanding of their impact on Air Canada’s commercial plan and operations.
  • When appropriate, conducts analyses on airport processes using data sources from both internal and external origin and makes recommendations based on findings.
  • Engages in significant consultation with internal stakeholders.

Continuous Learning and Industry Engagement

  • Stays abreast of the latest technical developments in simulations and management science, as well as new applications in the business world and the civil aviation sector.
  • Attends pertinent forums to discuss and understand trends in the simulation and data analytics fields, with the goal of incorporating these insights into Air Canada’s future analysis strategies.

Qualifications

  • University degree (master’s degree an advantage) in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or related field.  
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in business and/or data analysis  
  • Strong airport operations & planning experience – Terminal, Airside  
  • Experience with Simulation Software (CAST, Simio, or similar).  
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products with advanced MS Excel experience.  
  • Knowledge of MS Access, SQL programing or other data tool.  
  • Experience in the airline, airport, transportation, or broader infrastructure sector.
  • Program management certifications are a benefit.
  • Familiarity with airport lease management, space protection, and property rights oversight.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment. 

Conditions of Employment:
