Job Description

As an Electrical Engineering Designer, you will help the Electrical team take our innovative designs from concept to production. You will be responsible for the electrical/ electronics designs of all industrial robotics products. This will range through the entire design process from initial concept design and cost forecasting through to detailed design, harness design, verification and validation, and final release to production. Design challenges will span from vehicle connectivity, power distribution, to board layout, and field testing. Our hardware must be many things, but reliability is paramount. This work will involve working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the product goals are met and customers get the best quality product. You will report to Manager, Electrical Engineering and will work Hybrid in Kitchener, ON.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, prototyping, release to production and support manufacturing. Including;
  • Cable assembly design, PCBA design and layout
  • Integration and testing of prototypes into robots
  • Low speed digital/analog circuit design and simulations
  • PCBA design, microprocessor and network integration (CAN, Ethernet, ModBUS)
  • Power distribution and motor systems
  • Help evaluate all suppliers, taking ownership of key components.
  • Work across teams to get concepts, design, and prototypes completed and tested.
  • Work with client success team to correct in-field issues
  • Drive root cause analysis to correct issues and evaluate how we apply lessons-learnt to future designs.
  • Generate documentation:
    • Operations and Maintenance Documentation
    • Test plan evaluations and reports
    • Manufacturing Drawings
  • Develop subject matter expertise in your discipline by staying up to date with industrial design, practices, and standards.
  • Participate in certification, safety, and standards review and compliance assessments
  • Review diagnostics and design revisions of complex mobile robots and manipulation systems
  • Support new platforms and attachments
  • Occasional travel may be required

The Essentials: You will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant field.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred: You might also have:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • 3+ years experience in electrical systems design
  • 3+ years experience in Prototyping and debugging experience.
  • Electrical/electronic component selection and validation
  • Comfortable working closely within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with industry-standard CAD tools (e.g. Altium, VeSys, Solidworks)
  • Kilowatt-class motor controller design experience
  • Standards and/or certification experience
  • Knowledge of analogue/digital circuit design and PCBs.
  • Experience with PLCs and industrial controls
  • Knowledge of industrial panel layout, design, and construction.
  • Familiarity with mechanical subsystems

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is from $73,840 - $110,760 CAD Annually. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
