What you'll be doing
CIBC Capital Markets is a client-focused business that brings deep market insight, advice, and execution to corporate, institutional, and government clients across Canada and beyond. As a Director, Capital Markets Communications you'll shape and deliver integrated communications strategies that strengthen CIBC's profile in Canada, with a primary focus on Global Markets, Global Distribution and Research, and Payments. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing strategic counsel and hands-on execution across external communications, media relations, internal communications, executive support, and thought leadership. You'll help protect and enhance the firm's reputation by guiding communications through complex, fast-moving situations and aligning messaging to broader enterprise priorities. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned communicator who brings strong judgment, capital markets knowledge, and the confidence to support senior executives in a dynamic environment.

How you'll succeed
- External Communications & Media Relations - Lead and execute communications strategies that support Canadian Capital Markets priorities across Global Markets, Global Distribution and Research, and Payments, aligned to enterprise objectives.
- Media Strategy & Execution - Manage proactive and reactive media relations, respond to inquiries, identify opportunities to elevate business priorities, and develop press releases, media statements, backgrounders, and question-and-answer documents.
- Executive Support - Prepare senior executives and subject matter experts for media interviews, public commentary, and speaking engagements, and draft internal messages, presentations, scripts, and remarks on behalf of leadership.
- Issues Management - Provide strategic counsel and real-time communications support during market-sensitive or reputational issues, and develop scenario plans, holding statements, and response frameworks in partnership with senior communications leaders.
- Strategic Partnership - Act as a trusted communications advisor to Capital Markets leaders and enterprise partners, offering guidance on stakeholder positioning, engagement approaches, and reputational considerations.
- Thought Leadership - Identify and advance opportunities to showcase CIBC's perspective on capital markets, market structure, and the broader financial system through executive speeches, opinion pieces, and other external content.
Who you are
- You're an experienced communications professional. You bring deep expertise in corporate communications, public affairs, media relations, or a related field, with experience supporting senior leaders in a complex, high-profile environment.
- You understand capital markets. You have strong knowledge of Canadian Capital Markets, including areas such as Global Markets, Global Distribution and Research, and Payments, and can translate complex business activity into clear, credible communications.
- You're a trusted advisor. You use sound judgment, discretion, and a calm, confident approach to guide leaders through sensitive situations, competing priorities, and fast-moving developments.
- You communicate with impact. You have exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, and can tailor messages for employees, media, executives, and external stakeholders.
- You build strong relationships. You work effectively across teams and functions, and you're skilled at building credibility with senior executives, business partners, and external media contacts.
