DESCRIPTION
Join our Field Service team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Field Service Technician specializing in Bulk Elemental Analysis (BEA) instrumentation! You'll provide high-quality technical support, installation, maintenance, and repair services for our BEA product portfolio, focusing on X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) systems. Working independently, you'll travel to customer sites in heavy industrial environments including cement plants, steel mills, and mining operations, ensuring maximum instrument uptime and customer satisfaction. You'll receive a company vehicle and comprehensive training to support your success in this customer-facing role.
Our Field Service Technicians are essential to maintaining our customers' vital analytical operations. You'll install, calibrate, and validate complex analytical instruments at customer sites, perform planned preventative maintenance, and diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, and optical failures under high-pressure industrial timelines. You'll conduct technical training for customer laboratory staff and operators, maintain accurate service documentation and parts inventory, and adhere to safety protocols. REQUIREMENTS
Qualified Instrumentation Technician with National Diploma in Process Control & Instrumentation, Trade Test, or equivalent recognized technical qualification
Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on field service experience servicing analytical laboratory instrumentation
Proven technical expertise and practical experience troubleshooting and maintaining XRF, OES, and XRD instruments
Deep operational familiarity with the unique environments, safety standards, and workflows of the cement, steel, and mining industries
Valid driver's license with good driving record required
Willingness to travel extensively to remote customer sites, including some overnight travel, occasionally on short notice
Strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical aptitude with analytical instrumentation
Proficiency in diagnostic software and computerized analytical tools
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Self-directed with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently in remote or isolated industrial locations
Physical requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work safely in industrial environments
Availability to work flexible hours including occasional overtime
Strong documentation and reporting skills
Must follow EHS requirements and safety protocols
Ability to maintain accurate parts inventory and manage company resources
