Job Description:

The psychologist assistant supports the activities of the psychologist in providing psychological services to rehabilitation and neurological inpatients and outpatients. This includes administering and scoring psychological and neuropsychological tests.

Essential Functions

  • Administer and score standardized psychological and neuropsychological tests for patients under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Document patient care under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Provide clinical support to licensed rehabilitation psychology staff.
  • Assists in the provision of individual or group psychotherapy to neurological rehabilitation inpatients and outpatients under the supervision of licensed rehabilitation psychology staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service when responding to patient/family requests.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.
  • Adhere to all appropriate standards of practice as outlined by the American Psychological Association, State Licensing Board, and other professionally relevant psychological bodies under the direction of the psychologist.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in psychometrics and neuropsychology or have completed master's level course work in neuropsychological and psychological assessment as part of training for the specialty of neuropsychology at the doctoral level.
  • Must be enrolled in a doctoral program from an accredited institution in Psychology or Neuropsychology with authorization from their program to work as a Rehab/Neuro Psychologist Assistant or must be a certified postdoctoral resident.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand or sit in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
