Job Summary and Responsibilities

Responsibility for the operational objectives of the Central Sterilization department at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, to provide management and guidance in the preparation and sterilization of instrumentation and packs, and equipment assembled and dispensed through the department. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to the sterilization quality assurance performed in the ED and L/D departments as well as other departments using hospital sterilized products. Interacts with personnel and other departments within the framework of the philosophy and policies established by Northridge Hospital Medical Center. Assumes responsibility for the interpretation and implementation of hospital policies, develops and implements all departmental policies and procedures. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Northridge Hospital Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Northridge Hospital Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.
  • Responsible for the dissemination and implementation of hospital policy. Hospital policies and procedures are read and implemented in the department as necessary.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of all departmental policies and procedures. Reviews and updates existing departmental policies and procedures annually.
  • Personally interviews and selects all potential employees. Selects personnel who appear to be best qualified for the position being filled.
  • Observes employees during orientation program. Monitors progress of new employees during orientation period with the assistance of Leads.
  • Monitors and approves staffing patterns, attendance records and work assignments to ensure budget requirements are being maintained. Monitors staffing pattern to meet daily workload while maintaining budget requirements. Monitors attendance records of all shifts and notes all trends in abuse of personal benefits.
  • Conducts staff meeting and inservice training. Ensures staff meetings are conducted as needed, minimally monthly, to keep personnel informed of any change in policy or procedure.

Job Requirements

Required
  • High School Graduate General Studies and 5 Years Acute Care Hospital Experience, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies and 5 Years Acute Care Hospital Experience, upon hire and
  • 3 Years Managerial Experience directly related to Sterile Processing and
  • Certified and Registered Central Service Technician, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and
  • Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor, within 6 - months and
  • Fire Safety, within 90 Days
Preferred
  • College degree in related field and Operating Room experience, upon hire
