Make an Impact Through Clinical Excellence, Education, and Patient Care

MercyOne is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Clinical Educator/Specialty Nurse to combine hands-on emergency nursing with staff education and professional development. In this unique role, you'll spend approximately 60% of your time providing direct patient care in the Emergency Department and 40% leading education, competency development, trauma training, and clinical practice initiatives.

As a clinical expert and educator, you'll help shape the next generation of emergency nurses while advancing evidence-based practice, quality outcomes, and trauma readiness across the organization.

What You'll Do

Emergency Nursing Practice (60%)

  • Provide high-quality care to patients with urgent, emergent, and critical conditions.

  • Perform rapid assessments, triage, and emergency interventions.

  • Administer medications and treatments, monitor patient progress, and collaborate closely with providers and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Participate in resuscitation, trauma response, and emergency stabilization efforts.

Clinical Education & Professional Development (40%)

  • Lead onboarding, orientation, and competency programs for Emergency Department staff.

  • Develop and deliver educational content, simulations, drills, and continuing education programs.

  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and clinical resource for nurses and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Promote specialty certification, professional growth, and lifelong learning.

  • Support emergency preparedness, trauma readiness, and evidence-based nursing practice.

Trauma Education & Quality Improvement

  • Partner with Emergency Department and Trauma Program leaders to support trauma education initiatives.

  • Coordinate trauma simulations, mock activations, skills validation, TNCC, ATCN, and other trauma-focused learning opportunities.

  • Use quality metrics, performance improvement findings, and patient outcomes data to identify educational opportunities.

  • Support policy development, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety and outcomes.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or obtained within designated timeframe.

Licensure

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa or compact state licensure.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of Emergency Department or Critical Care nursing experience required.
