The Phenomenex Manager, Purchasing and Materials is responsible for managing and providing leadership for all aspects of upstream material flow, from the supply base through receiving. This individual will manage raw and OEM inventory levels, supplier on-time delivery, and off-site warehousing to ensure that both internal and external customer orders are fulfilled on time. This position is a key member of the Procurement organization.
This position reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain and Operational Excellence and is part of the Supply Chain leadership team located in Torrance, California and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Lead, develop, and coach the Purchasing and Materials team to achieve operational excellence, drive employee engagement, and build organizational capabilities aligned with business objectives.
Develop and execute strategic plans to improve supplier performance, customer on-time delivery, inventory management, working capital productivity, and overall supply chain performance.
Through application of the Danaher Business System (DBS), establish, implement, and continuously improve best-practice purchasing, planning, inventory management, and inventory control processes, including cycle count and physical inventory programs, to enhance operational efficiency and inventory accuracy.
Build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships to achieve quality, delivery, cost, and service objectives while proactively mitigating supply chain risks.
Develop and sustain KPI reporting and performance management systems that provide actionable insights, support data-driven decision-making, and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Serve as a key member of the Supply Chain leadership team, partnering cross-functionally to drive business objectives, support growth initiatives, and champion Danaher Business System (DBS) methodologies and continuous improvement culture.
Ensure compliance with company policies and environmental, health, and safety regulations, while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement, and performing other duties as assigned.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred; 5+ years of leadership experience in purchasing, materials, or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate high-performing teams.
Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing operations; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated success driving continuous improvement and operational excellence through structured problem-solving and DBS/Lean methodologies.
Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and build cross-functional partnerships.
Financial and business acumen, including experience with inventory management, working capital optimization, supplier performance, and KPI-driven performance management.

The salary range for this role is $115,000 – $135,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
