The gap no one has filled

Every complex system in America has a profession whose job it is to be your trusted guide. A lawyer for legal. An accountant for taxes. A financial advisor for your money. Healthcare, a trillion-dollar industry that touches every single family, leaves us on our own.

99% of care happens when someone steps outside the four walls of a doctor's office. Hera is creating a new profession in healthcare to fill that last mile gap: the Hero, a dedicated care manager for your family. Our Heroes educate, coordinate, and advocate for the most vulnerable population. We're covered by insurance, so we can serve every family in America.

Quality is the strategy

We serve the most complex, highest-acuity population in healthcare: older adults coming straight out of a hospital discharge, living with dementia, juggling a dozen medications and twice as many specialists. When families meet us, they are facing the hardest experience of their entire lives.

Our brand promise is simple: care that would only be great enough for our own parents. That promise is our moat. It's why physicians refer, why families join, and what every Hero must deliver on every visit.

We are creating a new category. Winning is how we make sure the standard of care for this generation of parents is one worthy of them.

That is why this role exists. The Head of Clinical at Hera is the person who defines what great care means at Hera, and makes sure we deliver it for every family.

Our founding team

We've raised $34M from Accel and Bain Capital Ventures and 10x'ed revenue over the last 6 months organically through close partnerships with Weill Cornell, NYU Langone, UCSF, USC, and Mount Sinai. The Chief of Geriatrics at Weill Cornell and Director of Geriatrics at NYU Langone have joined us as clinical advisors. CFO of Mount Sinai has invested in us.

You'll build Hera alongside co-founders Jenny, Myles & Connie and a team from Palantir and Headway. We are in person in NYC. Read our story and watch our launch video here.

The role

You are the clinical leader of Hera. From day one, the full care team — Heroes and their clinical supervisors — report to you, and clinicians practice under your medical direction. You own the standard of what worthy care looks like, how it's measured, and how it gets delivered. And you'll stay close to the work: you'll see patients occasionally, because the person setting the standard of care should never be far from the work.

Three charters to start with the opportunity to grow into Hera’s CMO:

1. Own the care model and run the care team. You define how Hera keeps clients safely at home and out of the hospital — what great care means for this population, how it's delivered consistently across every Hero, and how clinical oversight continues long past the first visit. You set the standard, you build the systems that measure it in partnership with engineering and ops, and when the bar isn't met, you're the one who acts.

2. Be the clinical brain of the product. Most clinical leaders write training modules and scale through rigid processes that allow things to slip through the cracks. You'll do something different: partner with our engineering team to encode clinical judgment directly into our AI platform so that quality scales through software, not headcount. This is the part of the job that has never existed before, and it's the reason the right person will find this the most interesting clinical role in the country.

3. Define and shape a new category. We meet most of our families through health systems. You make Hera the most credible clinical voice in the room with health system leaders and payers, and you turn our care model into the industry's reference point. Long-term, you help position Hera as the category creator in longitudinal care management: the missing piece of American healthcare.

Who you are

  • You're a physician. MD required, board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, or family medicine. You'll serve as medical director of record from day one. You hold an active, unrestricted license and can obtain licensure in additional states as we grow.

  • You've spent 7+ years caring for complex, high-acuity patients. Geriatrics is ideal, but what matters is that you deeply understand this population: hospital discharges, polypharmacy, dementia and what keeps them out of the hospital.

  • You've led clinical teams and owned outcomes for 5+ years. You've built care models, protocols, and oversight systems, ideally at a tech-forward healthcare company, and managed clinicians and care teams at scale. You know how to earn the trust of nurses and social workers, and how to hold a bar without breaking a team.

  • You've delivered care beyond the four walls. You've built or run virtual, home-based, or hybrid care models and know how to maintain clinical quality when care happens over the phone, on video, and in living rooms, not just in clinic.

  • You're a builder, not a figure head. This is a 0→1 role. You'd rather define the rubric than inherit one. You're rigorous about what's working, obsessed with measurement, and willing to do the unglamorous work of getting the details right yourself.

  • You believe software is a clinical tool. You get genuinely excited about encoding your judgment into a product that makes every care manager perform like your best one.

  • Partners trust you fast. Health system executives, geriatricians, and payers walk away from a conversation with you believing their patients are safer with Hera.

  • Based in NYC or willing to relocate.

What we value

Worthy of our parents. We don't leave the 20% behind, because that applies to someone's mother. Quality isn't a constraint we tolerate on the path to growth. Quality is the strategy.

Collaboration must be an accelerant. Not everything will be collaborated on and that's fine. We assume good intent always and push the ball forward.

Celebrate human. Humans are at the heart of everything we do: every product decision, every Hero we choose to hire, every person we bring onto the team. For us, empathy is fuel to move with urgency because we know every single day matters for those we serve. We look for missionaries not mercenaries.

Enjoy the uphill. Wrestling problems this hard, in an industry this broken, is a privilege most people never get. We're excited for the summit but the joy is in the climb. If the hard part isn't what's pulling you, this might be the wrong climb.

Attack. Nothing is created in this world without an extraordinary amount of effort. In order to will the change we want to see in the world, we attack problems and play offense. We're here to win to ensure our customers get the world they deserve.

Our promise is we will stretch your limits and trust you to own unreasonably substantial outcomes. If this speaks to you, let's talk: jenny@hellohera.com
