Job Description

General Motors is seeking a strong editorial strategist to help shape more creative, audience-centered storytelling for employees across the intranet and related internal channels.

The Manager, Employee Editorial Strategy will lead editorial strategy for employee content with a focus on stronger concepts, clearer themes, and more compelling story treatments that earn employee attention. The person in this role will help raise the bar for how stories are framed, packaged, and developed for internal audiences, while creating a closer connection to Content Studio and adjacent editorial partners.

What you’ll do

  • Own editorial strategy for employee-facing storytelling across the intranet and related internal channels
  • Develop creative concepts, themes, and story approaches that help important messages break through with busy employee audiences
  • Identify opportunities to package content in more engaging, useful, and visually strong ways
  • Establish a more consistent, modern editorial approach across employee communications
  • Partner with Content Studio and editorial teams to influence stronger asset development and more intentional story planning
  • Guide stakeholders toward clearer framing, sharper audience focus, and more effective content treatments
  • Use feedback, performance insights, and evolving audience needs to continuously improve the employee content experience
  • Set editorial vision and repeatable approaches that strengthen story performance over time
  • Lead and develop the employee editorial strategy team, including setting objectives and priorities, story development and content quality based on business needs
  • Manage performance, support workforce planning and ensure the team has the capabilities needed to meet current and future business needs

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years experience in editorial strategy, content development, journalism, brand publishing, or owned media
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong editorial judgment
  • Experience coaching and developing team members through ongoing feedback, career support and a strong editorial bench
  • Proven ability to shape concepts and improve storytelling for digital audiences
  • Experience developing content themes, framing narratives, and elevating story packages
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across a matrixed organization
  • Experience partnering with creative teams or content development partners to support stronger storytelling
  • Strong understanding of what helps content attract attention and resonate with busy audiences on internal channels like intranet, Slack, and other front-line apps
  • Comfort using AI-enabled tools to improve research, planning, drafting, editing, or workflow efficiency while maintaining strong human judgment

Compensation:

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.

The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.

  • The salary range for this role is ($149,500 - $199,800). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

They will know how to turn important priorities into stronger concepts and clearer story themes, and how to help teams develop content that feels relevant, engaging, and built for employees from the start.

They will also bring a continuous-improvement mindset, helping GM strengthen the quality, consistency, and creative ambition of employee storytelling across channels. This leader will be comfortable operating with a high degree of independence, influencing across teams and functions, and owning measurable outcomes tied to the effectiveness of employee content.
