Job Summary and Responsibilities
Registered Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab
As our Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse, you will be a vital member of a specialized team delivering advanced cardiovascular care, assisting with complex diagnostic and interventional procedures that improve and save lives. Every day you will prepare, monitor, and recover patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, and other minimally invasive vascular procedures. You will be expected to supervise care according to policies, procedures, and the State Nurse Practice Act. To be successful in this role, you must be a highly skilled and detail-oriented caregiver, adept at critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and providing expert care in a fast-paced, high-tech procedural environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pre-procedure assessment and preparation of patients for various Cardiac Cath Lab procedures, including obtaining medical history, verifying consents, establishing IV access, and administering pre-procedural medications with a focus on cardiac care.
- Monitor patients continuously and meticulously during complex cardiac and peripheral interventional procedures, including conscious sedation administration and monitoring, cardiac rhythm interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, and vital sign assessment.
- Assist the Cardiologist and Cath Lab team during sterile diagnostic and interventional procedures (e.g., angioplasty, stenting, pacemaker insertions), anticipating needs, managing equipment, and ensuring adherence to aseptic technique and patient safety protocols.
- Implement and manage post-procedure recovery care, performing frequent assessments for complications such as bleeding, hematoma, or vascular compromise, managing pain, and providing patient education for discharge or transfer to a recovery unit.
- Collaborate effectively with Cardiologists, Radiologic Technologists, anesthesia providers, and other specialists to optimize patient flow, ensure precise procedural execution, and deliver seamless, multidisciplinary care within the Cath Lab.
- Maintain accurate and meticulous documentation of all patient assessments, medications, procedural events, and interventions, adhering to strict hospital policies and regulatory requirements for specialized cardiac procedural care.

Union Work Agreement:
- Shift Type/Length: Three (3) 8 Hour shifts and One (1) 12 Hour shift per week 8 Hour Shift: 0700 -1530 12 Hour HVC Shift: 0600 - 1830
- On Call Expectations: No more frequent than every 3rd weekend (Fri - Sun)
- Holiday Rotation/Vacation requests may affect weekend rotation
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
- 2-3 Years Of Experience In Cardiac Cath Lab or HVC
- LICENSURE Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
- Working knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, hemodynamic monitoring, EKG interpretation, advanced cardiac life support, and procedural patient care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certifications within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
- Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff
- Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
