Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Micron’s Global Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) team partners across sites and functions to ensure responsible, compliant, and sustainable operations worldwide. The team supports design, construction, and operational readiness for new and existing facilities, enabling safe and environmentally sound expansion of Micron’s global manufacturing footprint.
As a Principal Engineer in Environmental Engineering, you will lead integration across global capital projects including greenfield builds, brownfield expansions, major facility retrofits, ensuring environmental compliance requirements are embedded throughout facility planning, design, construction, and startup. The role spans key environmental domains including air, water, and waste, and influences complex, large-scale capital projects by embedding environmental requirements into early-stage design decisions, minimizing downstream risk and rework. It also leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance environmental compliance and engineering outcomes. This role supports Micron operations globally and requires periodic domestic and international travel.
Responsibilities
• Lead integration of environmental compliance requirements into the design and execution of facility systems supporting global fab expansion projects (e.g., exhaust/abatement, water/wastewater, chemical delivery, and waste systems)
• Partner with internal teams including Global EHSS, Global Facilities, and site EHSS teams to incorporate environmental requirements into early project design and engineering decisions
• Define and support implementation of global environmental design standards, specifications, and system performance expectations in alignment with Facilities engineering standards and best-known methods (BKMs)
• Provide subject matter expertise on environmental control technologies (e.g., abatement, wastewater treatment, chemical delivery, hazardous waste systems) and ensure alignment during design, construction, and startup
• Identify environmental compliance design risks impacting system performance, permitting, or operability, and drive cross-functional mitigation strategies with project design teams
• Participate in design reviews and engineering change processes, leveraging AI-enabled tools and analytics to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into system design decisions and trade-offs
• Incorporate lessons learned from site operations, startup, and compliance into continuous improvement of environmental design requirements and standards
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years of experience in environmental engineering, compliance, or facilities within semiconductor, manufacturing, or related industries
• Demonstrated experience interfacing with engineering design teams and influencing facility or infrastructure system design decisions
• Experience supporting greenfield or expansion projects with environmental requirements integration across multiple domains (air, water, waste)
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes
• Ability to work effectively across global teams and influence stakeholders in a matrixed organization
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
• Experience working with or within Facilities engineering disciplines (mechanical, process utilities, or controls) in semiconductor or high-tech manufacturing environments
• Familiarity with facility system design (e.g., exhaust/abatement systems, ultrapure water, wastewater, chemical distribution) and their environmental performance drivers
• Familiarity with global environmental regulatory frameworks and multi-site compliance strategies
• Experience developing or applying engineering standards or design specifications
• Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
