We have an opportunity to impact your career and provide an adventure where you can push the limits of what's possible.

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Enterprise Technology Infrastructure Platforms team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

We are seeking a new Vector Lead to join the small, dedicated team that runs Vector. This is a rare hybrid role that blends hands-on software development with community leadership and event organisation. You will help drive the continuous stream of Vector activities - supported by a global team of ~60 volunteer Regional Leads who provide a connection to each location and act as local culture carriers - while owning and evolving several of the applications that power the community.

You will need to switch between deep technical work and community organisation at the drop of a hat, and you will be equally comfortable coding independently and collaborating as part of a tight-knit team.

Job responsibilities

Community & Events

  • Organise and deliver Vector activities

  • Partner with and support the Regional Leads

  • Facilitate sessions confidently and energetically, acting as a visible ambassador for the community

  • Leverage and expand your network across the JPMorganChase technology community

Application Development

  • Take responsibility for several key applications:

  • CIAO (Community and Initiative Activity Organiser) — the tool used to administer all Vector activities

  • CodeComp — a massively multiplayer video game, with two versions, that is run twice a year

  • SANTA (Santa's AoC Network Tracking App) — used to manage the firm's large contingent of Advent of Code players each December

  • Contribute to several additional applications in the pipeline

  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.

  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • A seasoned software developer with an extensive background in technology and a strong track record of building and shipping applications

  • Comfort with JavaScript and AI-assisted rapid application development

  • Strong attention to detail, and a desire to always achieve the best possible results

  • Highly enthusiastic and passionate, able to work equally well independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability and willingness to speak publicly and confidently in front of thousands of people

  • Ability to context-switch rapidly between development work and community organisation

  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.

  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices

  • Strong ownership mentality - willing to take full responsibility for the applications in your care

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • A broad existing network within the JPMorganChase technology community
  • Experience with public cloud and cloud-native application development
  • Experience organising events, communities or developer-relations initiatives
  • A modulated desire to be the centre of attention - you enjoy being on stage, but enable others to shine, too

About Vector
Vector is the firm's software engineering community. 17,000 subscribers strong and growing rapidly, Vector brings our engineers together on a daily basis through a continuous stream of activities that promote knowledge sharing, networking, strategy alignment and technical excellence.

Vector's mission is to facilitate and motivate the personal development of software engineers building and operating applications in the cloud by delivering relevant content in a variety of formats (peer-to-peer presentations, demos, labs, hackathons, coding competitions and more), creating regular opportunities for engineers to learn from their peers, and aligning our developers with the firm's global technology strategy and one another. The result is a community of more knowledgeable, skilled, connected and motivated engineers, accelerated adoption of the public cloud, and a firm that is an attractive employer for those who want to build modern software.

Why Join?
This is a very rare opportunity to shape the technical and cultural experience of tens of thousands of engineers across one of the world's foremost software development houses. You'll code, you'll present, you'll connect people, and you'll help set the standard for what an engineering community can be.
