Design Engineer (Associate, Experienced, or Senior)

The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks Design Engineers to serve as Structural and Payload Design Engineers for our team in El Segundo, CA.
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, interpret, and modify basic structural and payload system, or Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) component designs using 3-D CAD tools (such as Creo Parametric) or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T – ASME Y14.5M) standards.
- Validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
- Manage supplier development and test and production activities. Coordination with suppliers to optimize design and achieve program goals.
- Develop new design and analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to interpret requirements, define interfaces and develop innovative integrated assembly designs using thorough design layouts to produce engineering definition documents.
- Provide engineering support throughout fabrication, integration, and test of structure products at suppliers and in-house facility.
- Develop complex equipment and tooling concepts and design solutions for the Production System
- Investigate emerging technologies to create concepts for future product designs, vehicle integration, and testing to meet project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, integrate, and document vehicle tooling and equipment integration workflows based on design requirements to enhance productivity during vehicle integration.
This position is expected to be fully onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Ability, after starting in the role, to get a TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Years of related experience: 1+ for level 2, 3+ for level 3, 5+ for level 4.
- Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Experience in Space Hardware environments, such as satellites.
- Experience with structural engineering, payload engineering, or systems engineering.
- Experience with composite materials and processes, such as honeycomb sandwich panels, carbon fiber layups, graphite layups.
- If not already within commuting distance of El Segundo, CA, willingness and ability to relocate at own expense.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Antenna Structures or Antenna Systems experience.
- Composite experience.
- RF Components experience.
- Satellite experience.
- Experience working with manufacturing methods, fabrications, or assembly processes.
- Spacecraft platform or bus structures experience (S/C Bus).
- GSE/Tooling experience.

Level 2: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Shift:
Ability and willingness to work occasional compensated ad hoc support outside of typical business hours.

Level 2: $90,950 - $123,050
Level 3: $111,350 - $150,650
Level 4: $135,150 - $182,850
