Position Purpose: 

Provides hospital and affiliated facilities with processed materials and equipment by executing established procedures for decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. Maintains efficient flow of processing 
procedures, through appropriate case set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.

 

What the Sterile Processing Tech I will do: 

  • Properly identifies and decontaminates instruments through use of washer/decontaminator equipment and 
    proper hand-washing techniques.

  • Assembles instruments correctly, ensuring appropriate cleanliness and function is achieved.

  • Prepares instruments for sterilization through proper packaging, rigid container system, and wrapping 
    techniques.

  • Sterilizes instruments by correctly loading carts and operating sterilizers (Steam Sterilizer and Low 
    Temperature).

  • Properly handles sterilized instruments for storage and distribution.

  • Maintains efficient flow of processing procedures, through appropriate case cart set-up, anticipation of health care provider requests and patient care needs.

  • Anticipates and prioritizes instrument and supply needs using surgery lists, instrument tracking systems and inventory levels of instruments.

  • Maintains the GI unit environment and endoscopic equipment, accessories, and supplies as directed. Ensures proper use, function, and safety within infection control guidelines.
  • o Ensures all endoscopes are cleaned and disinfected according to institutional policy and procedures.
  • o Ensures endoscopic accessories are cleaned and sterilized after use.
  • o Ensures that a leakage test is performed following each use of endoscope per manufacturer recommendations.
  • o Make sure to check angulation of scopes as needed.
  • o Send out endoscopes in need of repair and communicate that with Manager and Service Line Lead.
  • Implements universal precautions.

• Maintain all appropriate equipment and sterilization/disinfection documentation.
• Participates as a team member and is accountable for own work responsibilities as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Graduate of a sterile processing program One year of general work experience

  • Agreement to get certification in sterile processing within 18 months of hire through CBSPD or HSPA.
