Government Affairs Senior Principal, Commercial Insurance Public Policy
Job Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director, Global Public Policy, the Senior Principal, Commercial Insurance Public Policy will lead the development and execution of public policy strategies impacting commercial insurance, employer-sponsored health coverage, ERISA, tax policy, and broader health care reform initiatives. This role provides strategic policy counsel, legislative and regulatory analysis, and advocacy support to advance business objectives across Cigna's commercial businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and drive public policy strategies related to commercial insurance, employer-sponsored coverage, ERISA, tax policy, behavioral health, and health care reform.
- Monitor and analyze federal and state legislative and regulatory developments and assess business impacts.
- Advise senior leadership on emerging policy risks, opportunities, and advocacy strategies.
- Develop policy positions, comment letters, white papers, briefing materials, and executive communications.
- Partner across business, clinical, legal, analytics, and strategy teams to develop evidence-based policy solutions.
- Represent the company with policymakers, regulators, trade associations, and other external stakeholders.
- Support public policy engagement efforts that promote affordability, predictability, and simplicity in health care.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; JD, MBA, MPH, MPA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of health care public policy experience within government, federal agencies, congressional committees, industry associations, consulting, or corporate environments.
- Deep knowledge of employer-sponsored health coverage, commercial insurance markets, ERISA, tax policy, and health care reform.
- Proven experience developing and implementing public policy and advocacy strategies.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes and their impact on business operations.
- Exceptional analytical, written, verbal, and executive-level communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate across complex organizations.
- This role is office based in Washington, DC
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 176,600 - 294,300 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
