About The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Systems Engineer to operate in between our Hardware, Electrical, and Software teams developing Wonder’s new robotics products. You will support our engineering team with their projects, as well as lead your own projects managing consultants and automation vendors. You will play a critical role in researching, prototyping, integrating, and testing complex electromechanical and fluidic systems that will power our future products.

The Impact You Will Make

Design & Engineering

  • Synthesize inputs from Hardware, Electrical, and Software teams to author comprehensive, system-level schematics/diagrams (mapping motors, sensors, actuators, pneumatics, and power distribution).

  • Perform deep dives into unfamiliar technologies, conducting rigorous research and trade studies to understand the landscape of solutions, and help define our path forward on various subsystems.

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact with third party vendors supplying us with custom solutions to engineering challenges (such as custom blenders, or cup sealers). Call vendors on the phone or set up video calls to quickly align on vendor/product fit. Define control strategies to seamlessly integrate these technologies into our core architecture.

  • Execute testing protocols for critical system components (e.g. pumps, valves, flow sensors, chillers, heaters) to ensure they meet performance, reliability, and throughput requirements.

  • Lead the design and strategy for pneumatic and fluidic controls, including manifold configurations, overall routing/plumbing architecture, and safety strategy

  • Partner with Mechanical Engineers to dive into datasheets and interface with applications engineers to spec needed sensors, actuators, cables, connectors, ect

  • Learn the existing system-level documentation for the Infinite Kitchen product and use it as a baseline to establish a unified, consistent design language for system documentation across all other projects.

Commissioning & Support

  • Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting support during installation, system startup, and ongoing operations

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, software engineers, and technician teams

What You Bring to the Table

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field

  • 5+ years of engineering work experience, at least 2 of which are in a System Integrator or Systems Engineering role in the industrial robotics/automation industry or similar

  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors to make custom build/specced equipment to solve an engineering problem

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in creating clear, logical system maps, wiring diagrams, pneumatic and plumbing diagrams, and flowcharts using tools like Lucidchart, Visio, or similar ECAD/schematic software.

  • Proficient at CAD, control system wiring, and software scripting to rapidly design, build, and evaluate engineering concepts.

  • A solid foundational understanding of electromechanical systems. You are comfortable reading schematics, understanding controls architecture, pneumatic and fluidic plumbing and controls, and working with both hardware and software teams.

  • Comfortable designing or architecting electromechanical, pneumatic or fluidic systems from the ground up.

  • Comfortable with reading and understanding detailed third party datasheets, evaluating components for application suitability and translating those learnings into simple conclusions and recommendations

  • Proficient at researching unfamiliar technologies and building a fundamental understanding to map out potential solutions

  • Familiarity with modern agile and project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Miro, etc.) to track progress and manage tasks effectively.

Professional Skills

  • Ability to push forward on many projects at once, balancing priorities appropriately

  • Highly capable of interfacing with vendors and third parties to describe requirements and evaluate component suitability. Excellent communicator.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site commissioning and support

This role requires a minimum of 4 days a week in the office, with additional days as needed based on project demands.

This role is based in our Boston office in Charlestown, MA

Massachusetts: $124,000-$145,000 per year.
