Accountabilities:

    The Managing Consultant, Strategic Communications will serve as a practice leader responsible for overseeing client engagements, driving strategic communications initiatives, mentoring teams, and supporting organizational growth.

    • Lead strategic communications projects and serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing technical expertise, strategic direction, and quality oversight.
    • Manage client relationships, support account growth, and ensure successful delivery of consulting engagements.
    • Develop and execute communication strategies, including campaign planning, stakeholder engagement, messaging development, and public outreach initiatives.
    • Guide public health communication efforts through culturally responsive messaging, audience insights, storytelling, and digital communication strategies.
    • Support branding, creative development, content creation, and visual identity initiatives for programs and campaigns.
    • Provide expertise in advocacy and policy communications, including policy translation, legislative tracking, advocacy strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
    • Prepare clients for advocacy activities, including legislative meetings, public testimony, and communication-focused training sessions.
    • Develop and implement the strategic vision and roadmap for the communications practice area.
    • Monitor industry trends, emerging practices, and opportunities to strengthen client support and organizational strategy.
    • Identify business development opportunities, lead proposal development, support client acquisition, and contribute to growth initiatives.
    • Build relationships with public health agencies, community organizations, coalitions, and professional networks.
    • Mentor and manage consultants and associate-level team members while fostering collaboration and professional growth.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate is a senior strategic communications professional with consulting experience, strong public health knowledge, and the ability to lead complex client engagements and teams.

      • 8+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 4 years in a consulting environment.
      • 6–12 years of progressive experience in public programming, advocacy, strategic communications, or related fields.
      • Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, or a similar relevant discipline preferred.
      • 4+ years of people management experience and demonstrated experience leading teams.
      • 3+ years of project leadership or management experience.
      • 5+ years of client-facing experience, including experience managing strategic engagements.
      • Proven experience leading business development activities, including opportunity identification, proposal development, and contracting.
      • Strong presentation and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, stakeholders, and clients.
      • Ability to translate complex concepts, data, and policy information into clear messaging for diverse audiences.
      • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, managing shifting priorities, and balancing strategic thinking with detailed execution.
      • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work independently in a remote consulting environment.
      • Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites, conferences, and professional events.
