ABOUT THE DESIGN TEAM
Trustly's Design team is the standard-bearer for quality across every surface our consumers and merchants touch. From checkout flows and merchant portals to internal tooling and data dashboards, Design shapes how Trustly shows up in the world — and it drives the business directly. When complex financial experiences feel simple, trustworthy, and fast, consumers convert, merchants win, and revenue follows. At Trustly, design isn't polish on the product; it's a lever on conversion rates, consumer and merchant satisfaction, and the bottom line.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As VP of Design, you will own the design vision and quality bar for Trustly's global product surfaces. You'll build and lead a team of product designers, protect the integrity of the consumer experience through periods of rapid growth, and act as a key voice in shaping what Trustly builds and how it feels. This role is for a design leader who cares deeply about craft, has the organizational savvy to protect it, and can operate at the intersection of design, product, and engineering. You're fluent in AI-native ways of building — prototyping in code, using AI tools to take ideas from concept to working UX, and expecting the same from your team. Design skill plus the ability to build is the new bar, and you set it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Set and defend the design vision, design language, and quality standard for Trustly's consumer and merchant-facing products — ensuring every surface reflects a coherent, high-quality experience.
-
Build, lead, and mentor a team of product designers across multiple product surfaces; establish design culture, processes, and ways of working that scale with the organization.
-
Own Trustly's design system — ensuring consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across teams and platforms.
-
Partner closely with Product and Engineering leadership to integrate design deeply into every stage of the product development cycle — strategy, shipping, experimentation, feedback, and refinement — so design stays engaged well beyond launch.
-
Drive user research and usability testing practices that ground design decisions in real user needs and behaviors.
-
Act as a strategic design voice in executive conversations — advocating for design investment and articulating the business value of exceptional experience.
WHO YOU ARE
-
12+ years of product design experience, with at least 4 years leading design teams at a fast-growing technology company.
-
Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design leadership across consumer and/or B2B products — from vision and strategy through to polished, shipped execution.
-
Deep expertise in design systems, interaction design, and visual design; high standards for craft and an eye for what separates good from great.
-
Proven ability to build and grow design teams and culture in a fast-paced environment — you know how to hire great designers and create the conditions for them to do their best work.
-
Payments, fintech, or enterprise SaaS design experience a strong plus — comfort designing for complex, regulated, or high-stakes user contexts.
-
Effective cross-functional partner and communicator — you influence without authority and can bring engineering and product along on design decisions.
