As a Sr. Advanced R&D Engineer Scientist here at Honeywell, you will play a critical role in driving innovation, shaping the company's technical strategy, and mentoring future leaders. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, industry experts, and stakeholders to solve complex challenges and advance the company's mission.
You’ll report directly to the Engineering Manager and be part of the Braking Systems business unit, based in South Bend, IN, with a hybrid work schedule. Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


•    Provide strategic guidance and thought leadership in advanced research areas relevant to aerospace technologies.
•    Drive innovation and identify emerging trends and technologies to maintain Honeywell’s leadership in the aerospace sector.
•    Identify and implement process improvements and optimization of our manufacturing processes.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges and develop cutting-edge solutions.
•    Mentor and develop future leaders within the organization to build a robust technical talent pipeline.
•    Represent Honeywell as a subject matter expert at industry conferences and events, contributing to thought leadership.
•    Contribute to the development of intellectual property and participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.

YOU MUST HAVE


•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus in composites.
•    8+ years of engineering experience with a proven track record of leadership and technical expertise in aerospace or related advanced R&D fields.
•    Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with experience driving innovation and technology development.
•    Proven project management, estimation, and time management skills.
•    Expertise in advanced aerospace technologies, materials science, electronics, sensors, or controls, with a deep understanding of emerging trends and their applications.
•    Experience in mentoring and developing technical talent and contributing to intellectual property creation and strategic planning.
•    Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) to both technical and non-technical audiences.

WE VALUE


•    Advanced degrees such as MS or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
•    Experience in leading complex aerospace R&D projects and managing cross-functional teams.
•    Practical knowledge of carbon fiber manufacturing, preforming, pyrolysis/carbonization, and/or textile engineering.
•    Exceptional leadership and visionary thinking with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
•    Strong network and connections within the aerospace industry and academia.
•    Demonstrated ability to drive technology commercialization and influence strategic decisions.
