Downer’s Whanganui Energy & Utilities team is looking for an experienced Electrical Fitter/Electrician to deliver installation, maintenance and fault repair across substations, transformers, HV/LV switchgear, regulators and wider distribution network equipment.

This role offers variety with planned works, reactive maintenance, fault response and technical diagnostics. 

You’ll be part of a skilled crew responsible for delivering high‑quality technical work that keeps the network reliable. Work closely with internal teams to assess requirements, estimate materials and support smooth project delivery. With access to strong procedures, industry‑leading safety frameworks and ongoing training, you’ll have the opportunity to continue building your skills across the substation and distribution environment.

This is a Full-Time, Permanent role based from Whanganui and work across the region. We guarantee 40 hours per week, with fault rostering, occasional overtime, aways well compensated.

We’re looking for a practical, safetyfocused Electrical Fitter with proven experience maintaining distribution or substation assets and delivering highquality technical work.

You will bring:

  • Electrical Fitter or Electrician trade qualification (with relevant registration)
  • Experience working with substations, transformers, switchgear or distribution equipment
  • Strong faultfinding and diagnostic skills
  • High attention to detail, quality and safe work practices
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team

A commitment to Zero Harm, accurate documentation and safe behaviours is essential in this role.
