Physical Therapist I- MSW-FT Days

Performs initial examinations and provides physical therapy intervention to a diverse patient population. Works under the supervision of the Therapy Manager/Senior Therapist. (Inpatient Rehab and Acute) This position is entry-level and part of a multi-disciplinary team, and has the opportunity to rotate across Inpatient Rehab, and Acute services.

1. Performs initial examinations, establishes appropriate goals, plans and implements treatment interventions, performs timely re-examinations and modifies goals and treatment interventions accordingly. Coordinates with other disciplines when indicated.

2. Assumes responsibility for all documentation requirements in a timely manner, i.e., initial examinations, progress notes, monthly summaries and discharge summaries.

3. Provides training to families or care partners and medical personnel as indicated.

4. Recommends appropriate durable medical equipment in coordination with appropriate team members. Writes letters of medical necessity when indicated.

5. Participates in discharge planning, makes recommendations for continued physical therapy and provides home exercise programs when appropriate.

6. Attends all appropriate conferences, rounds, in-services and meetings.

7. Will be assigned additional patients in the event that coverage is necessary as dictated by staffing needs.

8. Maintains therapy attendance records, patient charges and statistics.

9. Participates in the supervision of Rehab Patient Care Associates, volunteers, and students.

10. Must be a current member of the APTA.

11. Must follow all MSH policies and procedures.

12. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

a. Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group

b. Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment

c. Provides care for patients based on age-specific needs

Uses communication techniques which are age appropriate

Educational/Professional development

1. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements.

2. Identifies learning strengths and needs

3. Utilizes learning resources

4. Plans and participates in inservice educational programs

5. Attend a minimum of 2 continuing education courses per year, and present on them to the staff.

6. Adheres to specific department dress code and hospital dress code

7. Adheres to department hours

8. During work hours performs those duties only relating to the department.

9. Adheres to department policies on attendance, sick days, vacation and personal time.

Communication/ Relationships

1. Demonstrates a professional, courteous and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others.

2. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community.

3. Effectively relates patients status and progress to other health professionals.

4. May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.

  • Masters degree. Doctorate preferred

  • Name: Current New York State Physical Therapy license. Graduate of an accredited PT Curriculum    Issuing Agency: DOH/Office of Professions

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $48.08 - $51.68 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
