Senior Engineer II, Mechanical

United KingdomPermanentPosted Jul 7, 2026
The Senior Mechanical Engineer 2 will be a key technical contributor within ClearMotion’s engineering team, supporting the design and development of mechanical systems within ClearMotion’s active suspension and actuator designs. The role includes a broad range of hands-on engineering responsibilities spanning 3D design, drawing release, analysis, supplier development, and problem solving. The Senior Mechanical Engineer 2 will work closely with Principal Engineers, Engineering Directors and Technical Project Leads to align on design path, task status, timing, and priorities, while also being capable of driving individual workstreams independently. The role requires strong communication skills (written & verbal) and will involve regular interaction with internal engineering groups, suppliers, machine shops, and customers. A practical, detail-oriented approach and a self-motivated attitude are essential to success in this position.

The role will be a split role between engineering / design tasks behind the task and hands-on test and validation efforts in the prototype lab. The candidate will be someone who is comfortable working in a dynamic work environment and will be enabled and well supported to take designs from A-Z in the design cycle process – from napkin sketch to review of formal test data from a prototype test to DFM with a supplier and then ultimately rolling it into the product. A rare opportunity with no corporate hand-cuffs or limitations.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Required Skills:
  1. 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in an automotive or related product development environment; proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modelling and 2D drawing creation with practiced GD&T; familiarity with structural simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys); ability to perform engineering design calculations (fits, stress approximations, CTE effects, etc.); hands-on experience in a test or R&D lab environment, including DOE test planning and execution; data processing and analysis capability using MatLab or equivalent post-processing tools; DFMEA experience; structured problem-solving experience (8D or equivalent); strong written and verbal communication skills with supplier and customer-facing experience; ability to travel for supplier and customer visits as required; comfortable working both independently and within a cross-functional team; Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Preferred Skills:
  1. Experience with actuator, damper, or suspension system design in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment; hands-on FEA experience including model set-up, meshing, and post-processing; exposure to DVP&R (design validation planning); Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  2. Travel:
    • Please note, the role may require travel (international possible) to support a wide range of engineering activities at one of our corporate locations, suppliers or customers. Estimate 2-5 trips per year depending on circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Design Engineering: Create, modify, and optimize 3D mechanical designs in SolidWorks; produce 2D engineering drawings with well versed GD&T in accordance with ClearMotion drawing standards and best practices; perform and formally document engineering design calculations including tolerance stacks, press-fit, O-Ring sizing, bolt torque, and similar; work with the simulation team to support FEA analysis requests including model set-up, constraints, and post-processing efforts; support DFM reviews and activities in collaboration with suppliers; manage a sub-assembly portion of the system DFMEA, supporting cross-functional DFMEA team meetings and reviews; represent the engineering team in supplier-facing technical meetings, supporting Manufacturing, Quality, and Commercial teams as a technical resource; support vehicle packaging exercises and 3D fit checks in collaboration with the packaging team; participate in 8D root cause and corrective action efforts as required, both internally and with external stakeholders.
  • R&D Test Lab: Work hands-on in ClearMotion’s R&D test lab supporting design of experiment (DOE) test planning and execution on hydraulic test equipment, including rig set-up, instrumentation, and data acquisition; process and interpret test data using MatLab or equivalent post-processing software, producing clear engineering summaries and communicating findings to the broader team; support project builds, test plans, and lab-based development activities at ClearMotion, supplier, or customer sites as needed.
