We are looking for a talented Chassis Technician (Onsite Technician) - Level III to join our team specializing in High Horsepower In-chassis Engine Services & Repairs for our Distribution Business Unit in Valterra - Mogalakwena Mine, Limpopo, South Africa.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Independently deliver high‑quality troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of high horsepower engine products to ensure reliable and efficient operations.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues by consistently applying documented Cummins procedures, policies, and technical standards.
- Proactively perform preventative maintenance based on thorough assessment of high horsepower engine systems and components, reducing downtime and future failures.
- Coach, guide, and develop less experienced technicians and apprentices by sharing technical knowledge, practical expertise, and best practices.
- Contribute to team capability by reviewing repair plans, parts lists, and work approaches, and providing technical input where required.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required service and repair documentation, including work records, timesheets, warranty claims, and quality forms.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are fit for purpose and properly maintained.
- Lead by example in adhering to Mining Health, Safety & Environmental policies and legislation, and actively promote safe working practices within the team.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Advanced expertise in Cummins high horsepower engine products and the ability to lead complex diagnostics and failure resolution using Cummins diagnostic tools, calibration systems, and technical documentation.
- Strong capability to act as the primary technical escalation point, coordinating effectively with Cummins Technical Support, Reliability, and Engineering teams on high‑risk or repeat failures.
- Proven ability to apply technical judgement, root cause analysis, and evidence‑based decision‑making to resolve issues and support continuous reliability improvement.
- A strong commitment to technical quality, governance, and safety, ensuring all repairs and validations meet Cummins standards, site requirements, and Health, Safety & Environmental procedures.
Education/ Experience:
- Cummins High Horsepower Engine Experience: Hands‑on experience on Cummins high horsepower engines in mining or heavy industrial applications, including exposure to major component change‑outs and critical breakdowns.
- Advanced Diagnostic & Electronic Skills: Proven ability to interpret Cummins fault codes, ECM data, sensor feedback, and wiring schematics, with competence in structured fault‑finding and root cause analysis.
- Recognized trade & Cummins Technical Training: Qualified Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Mechanic (or equivalent), with completed Cummins product and systems training aligned to high horsepower engines in mining or heavy industrial applications.
- Safety, Compliance & Governance Awareness: Strong working knowledge of Cummins HSE requirements, mine site safety systems, risk assessments, and permit‑to‑work processes, ensuring full compliance during troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Cummins Specialist or Master Technician Accreditation: Advanced Cummins certification (e.g. Engine Specialist, Lead Technician, or equivalent platform specialization
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship Capability: Experience mentoring Level 1–2 technicians, providing technical guidance, quality checks, and on‑the‑job coaching in line with Cummins capability development expectations.
