Butcher Power Products (BPP) designs and manufactures mission‑critical and industrial power solutions for essential infrastructure nationwide. Headquartered in Sacramento, CA, our teams collaborate closely across engineering, manufacturing, and operations to build reliable, high‑quality systems and take pride in delivering work that truly matters.
Position SummaryThe Wiring Designer produces point-to-point wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and schematic support for BPP’s low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment. This role works independently on assigned projects, collaborates directly with EE leads and project engineers, and reports to the Head of Electrical Design. This is a mid-level seat. You own your drawings from kickoff through release, flag issues early, and contribute to the standards that keep our drawing package consistent across the team.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Produce accurate, complete point-to-point wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and schematic support drawings in AutoCAD using BPP tool palettes, custom blocks, and title block standards.
  2. Manage your own workload against project schedules. Communicate capacity issues or risks to the Head of EE Design before they impact delivery.
  3. Incorporate revisions, redlines, and as-built feedback from Production and Manufacturing Engineering into drawings.
  4. Coordinate directly with EE leads, project engineers, and PMs on scope clarifications, drawing version control, and SO# specific requirements.
  5. Follow company drafting conventions for layer naming, block usage, wire tagging, terminal mapping, and annotation. Flag gaps in the standards when you hit them.
  6. Participate in drawing reviews, both as the designer of record and as a peer reviewer when asked.
  7. Support process improvement efforts within the wiring design group. Contribute to checklists, quick-reference docs, and block libraries as they get built out.
  8. Stay current on applicable standards (NEC, UL 891, UL 1558, ANSI/IEEE) as they apply to panel wiring, labeling, and construction. Raise code or standards questions to EE leads when something in a customer spec or drawing package looks off.

Required Qualifications
  1. 3+ years of electrical drafting experience, preferably in switchgear, control panels, or industrial power distribution.
  2. Proficient in AutoCAD. Comfortable with tool palettes, custom blocks, dynamic blocks, and layer management.
  3. Able to read and interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, and customer specs without hand-holding.
  4. Working knowledge of NEC, UL 891, UL 1558, and ANSI/IEEE standards as they apply to panel wiring, labeling, and clearances.
  5. Strong attention to detail. Can catch the small stuff (wire tag mismatches, terminal numbering errors, wire sizing, missing revisions) before it leaves your desk.
  6. Clear written and verbal communication. Can push back when something doesn’t look right.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with switchgear, PDUs, or data center power equipment.
  2. Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar schematic-capture tools.
  3. Exposure to SharePoint-based document control workflows.
  4. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment with direct shop floor interaction.
