Job Description

We are looking for an Electrical Apprentices to join our Service team in Swansea. This is a practical, hands-on role where you will learn how to maintain, test, and repair the complex electrical infrastructure that powers our Industrial, Marine, and Naval clients.

You will spend your first two years building your core knowledge, moving into field service shadowing in years three and four. You will be supported by experienced engineers and will be required occasionally travel to our Rugby head office and other specialised training centres.

What You Will Learn

This apprenticeship is designed to make you proficient across a broad range of engineering disciplines. You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Engineering Fundamentals: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical Systems, Electrical Drawings, and Technical Documents.
  • Controls & Automation: PLCs (including GEM80, Siemens Simatic, and ALSPA), SCADA systems, HMI, VFDs, DC Drives, and Motor Control.
  • Maintenance & Reliability: Preventive and Corrective Maintenance, Fault-finding, Debugging, Instrumentation, and Maintenance Management.
  • Operational Skills: Installation, Project Commissioning, Telemetry, and the use of specialized Electrical Testing Equipment.
  • Digital & Systems: iFix, IbA Data Acquisition, and Energy-focused applications.
  • Professional Practice: Electrical Safety, Customer Service, and Cross-Functional Work.
  • College to achieve Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship  

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Development: Work alongside senior engineers to master the repair and maintenance of complex industrial systems.
  • Fault Finding: Learn to identify and rectify electrical faults, ensuring our clients’ equipment remains operational and reliable.
  • Safety & Standards: Maintain the highest standards of electrical safety and quality in both the workshop and when on client sites.
  • Professional Growth: Attend off-site training modules at our Rugby and Coventry locations as required by the program.
  • Field Experience: Transition into shadowing field service engineers, gaining direct exposure to the challenges of supporting our Marine and Naval projects.

Requirements & Progression

  • A Practical Mindset: You should have a natural interest in how systems work and a desire to get involved with real-world engineering challenges.
  • Communication: You will be representing GE Vernova on-site; professional conduct and clear communication are essential.
  • Career Path: Once qualified, you will have a clear route to becoming a Field Service Engineer or a Junior Engineer. For those who excel, there is also the potential to pursue further degree-level qualifications.
