At Meta, we aim to bring together cross-disciplinary minds in one place to deliver on our mission: build tools that help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As a Thermal Design Engineer, you will take a critical role in developing systems for wearables and/or new technology initiatives. You will be part of a team exploring and developing products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration in domains inside and outside thermal and fan engineering. This role intersects many disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Proven experience in solving complex problems, embracing ambiguity, and proactively identifying solutions while working with a wider team is essential.
**Required Skills:**
Thermal Design Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Develop physics-based thermal models using programming languages such as MatLAB, Python, or Julia
2. Support the design, development, and optimization of part, sub-system, and system level design through collaboration with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software
3. Develop part and sub-system thermal and fan models using CFD and CAD tools
4. Develop and optimize thermal designs while integrating new thermal technologies through partnering with mechanical and electrical engineers
5. Support sub-system and system-level thermal verification through prototype testing
6. Support the development of thermal control systems while building prototypes to test on physical HW
**Minimum Qualifications:**
Minimum Qualifications:
7. B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
8. 2+ years of experience in thermal design related to server/hardware, advanced packaging, or wearables
9. Fundamentals in heat transfer, thermal/fluid sciences, or related physics
10. Background in modeling using CAD and CFD tools, such as Fluent, StarCCM+, FloEFD or similar
11. Experience in empirical testing and model correlation
12. Experience in programming with a scripting language such as MatLab, Python, or Julia, to support development of models and automation tools
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Preferred Qualifications:
13. Experienced in developing consumer-electronics devices or similar field
14. Experience developing analytical, physics-based thermal models
15. Familiar with the latest state-of-the art in thermal materials, such as graphite spreaders, aerogels, thermal interface materials, heatpipes, vapor-chambers, and fans
16. Familiarity with control theory as applied to thermal management systems
17. M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
18. Knowledge and applied applications in statistical analysis to gain insights in the performance of large numbers of devices
19. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
20. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
21. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
**Public Compensation:**
$118,000/year to $170,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
