Job Description

The Cost Engineer is responsible for creating, analyzing, and validating component material costs and targets. In this role, the Cost Engineer will support wire harness assemblies and will be responsible for generating ground-up material cost estimates. This position requires a fully qualified individual contributor with complete knowledge of their area and broad knowledge of related functions. Collaboration with key internal cross-functional peers will be a critical enabler for success. The selected candidate will work closely with the product engineering team, purchasing and supply chain team, vehicle program team, global joint venture partners, and, to an extent, the external component supply base.

This role requires a high level of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple assignments focused on identifying accurate cost estimates and cost reduction opportunities. The Cost Engineer will be expected to resolve diverse, non-standard problems, work independently with minimal guidance, and use data-driven analysis to influence decisions and proposed solutions. This role will have exposure to next-generation automotive vehicles while working with leading-edge automotive experts and technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop cost models using ground up analysis for components in electric propulsion focused on wire harness, jumper cables, connectors, and associated components.
  • Lead cost reviews cross functionally to communicate costs wire harness assemblies and other systems/components related to automotive wire harnesses.
  • Apply manufacturing process knowledge and bill of material understanding to ensure that all applicable costs are fairly captured in cost models.
  • Collaborate with cross functional peers to effectively communicate cost estimate as well as key assumptions used in the cost model.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing team to enable fact-based negotiations with suppliers.
  • Travel to supplier facilities as required to grow manufacturing process knowledge and enhance costing support to the specific engineering and/or purchasing team.

Qualifications:

  • Design Release / Costing and/ Manufacturing / Purchasing experience with wire harness assemblies.
  • Have led multiple projects or are in a current lead position.
  • Ability to assimilate a large amount of cost data and clearly communicate necessary information to cross functional team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and complexity.
  • Ability to lead change, resolve conflicts, and influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to use data driven analysis to identify solutions and establish next steps to assigned projects. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with global team members and cross functional peers.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and expertise in Excel.
  • Preferred experience in developing cost models using ground up analysis in the automotive/related industry (Wire harness assemblies are a plus

Education and Training:

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive cost estimating, automotive manufacturing, automotive product design / engineering, or automotive purchasing.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field of study.
  • A Graduate degree in Engineering or Business Administration is a plus.
  • Advanced English Level is required
