Install Technician 1
JOB TYPE: Full-time field position; schedule may vary based on customer needs, travel, overtime, evenings, weekends, and overnight assignments.
JOB DESCRIPTION: We are hiring a Cabling Technician to install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot low-voltage network cabling in commercial environments. This role supports structured cabling projects involving Cat5/Cat6, coax, and fiber optic cable while delivering professional, customer-focused service. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and able to travel as needed to support customer sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, route, dress, label, support, terminate, and test Cat5/Cat6, coax, and fiber optic cabling in commercial settings.
- Measure, cut, pull, and lay out cable and associated hardware according to work orders, drawings, and site requirements.
- Install connectors, fittings, termination hardware, and related components for connection to end-user equipment.
- Use diagnostic and test equipment to verify signal transmission, cable performance, and quality of service.
- Troubleshoot cabling, connectivity, and signal issues to restore or maintain service standards.
- Complete assignments on schedule while providing excellent customer service and communicating status, delays, risks, and site issues.
- Document expenses, timekeeping, and required project records accurately and on time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience or training in cabling, low-voltage systems, electrical work, electronics, telecommunications, IT, or a related technical field preferred.
- Working knowledge of network media such as Cat5/Cat6, coax, and fiber optic cable preferred.
- Ability to use common hand tools, cable termination tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic test equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, work orders, and technical instructions in English.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment, computers, phones, Microsoft Office, and Visio.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for assigned coverage area.
- Professional communication, appearance, and discretion when working with customers and client personnel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-guided, dependable, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Carry and monitor a company phone and remain responsive during scheduled and required on-call hours, except during rest and meal periods as required by applicable law.
- Work flexible hours as needed, including overtime on short notice, overnight travel, weekend work, and support outside regular business hours.
- Climb ladders and perform overhead work from elevated positions.
- Use hand tools, specialized cable termination tools, tape measures, laser measuring devices, calipers, and measuring wheels.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds.
- Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, and reach for extended periods, including in tight spaces.
- Perform regular grasping and repetitive hand movements, with visual acuity to differentiate wire colors and work with small wiring and connections.
