What You Will Do:
We are looking for a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopist to support the Analytical Chemistry Core (ACC), Division of Preclinical Innovation (DPI) at NCATS. This position is a full-time role located in Rockville, MD. 
- Provide support for the ACC NMR Spectroscopy laboratory, including operation of four (4) 400 MHz and one (1) 600 MHz NMR spectrometers.
- Conduct advanced NMR experiments and analyses, including 1D, 2D, nD, and VT NMR for structure verification, conformational analysis, impurity profiling, and purity assessments.
- Assess, design, and optimize chemical methods and experiments, modifying procedures to address challenges and improve performance.
- Develop and implement novel NMR methodologies and workflows, including automation and high-throughput platforms for small molecules, peptides, and proteins.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to staff on NMR instrumentation, laboratory procedures, and analytical techniques.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-field NMR instruments; perform instrument QC and routine servicing.
- Perform sample preparation and execute specialized techniques such as STD, HDX, RDC, relaxation analysis, and binding studies.
- Analyze and interpret spectral data; generate reports, figures, and scientific documentation.
- Conduct literature reviews and contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations.
- Maintain compound tracking systems and ensure proper documentation and data integrity.
- Monitor laboratory safety practices and ensure compliance with established protocols.
- Perform weekly liquid nitrogen fills and quarterly helium fills.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on translational research projects.
- Present updates and findings to laboratory teams on a regular basis.

What You Will Need:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in NMR spectroscopy or analytical chemistry laboratory environments.
- Demonstrated experience operating NMR spectrometers (Bruker, JEOL, Agilent, or similar platforms).
- Proficiency with NMR acquisition software (TopSpin, Delta, VnmrJ) and data processing tools (Mnova, ACD/Labs, nmrPipe, XPLOR-NIH).
- Experience performing advanced NMR techniques including STD, HDX, RDC, and relaxation studies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research laboratory setting.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biophysics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with fragment screening and protein sample preparation.
- Knowledge of automation systems and high-throughput screening technologies.
- Familiarity with computational and visualization tools such as ChemDraw, PyMOL, GraphPad Prism, and MOE.
- Programming experience in Python or R.
- Prior experience supporting translational or biomedical research programs.
- Experience writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
