Job Summary and Responsibilities
Under direction and supervision of a pharmacist, fills individual drug orders from the pharmacy medication profile. Prepares intravenous additive solutions for individual patients from the IV profile. Prepares bulk solutions.
- Conducts inspection of assigned nursing units on a monthly basis, removes all outdated drugs from the area, and documents all pertinent findings.
- Accurately fill medication labels as orders are processed for patients (both IV admixture and oral doses).
- Identifies items, which need to be ordered and records in purchasing log. Checks floor stock supplies and replenishes according to department policy. Checks in deliveries, Places distributor's price stickers on merchandise, and places into stock. Returns items to proper stock location and maintains bar code ID stickers in proper locations.
- Makes hourly pick-up/delivery rounds to every nursing station. Delivers medication to patient care areas. Rounds are made very hour on time so there is sufficient time to process new orders to be delivered by the next round.
- Delivers and exchanges 24-hour supply of medication in unit dose cassettes and IV admixtures on a daily basis, according to department policy.
Job Requirements
Required
- Must possess and maintain a current Pharmacy Technician license from the State of California
Preferred
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to the pharmacy department, proper aseptic technique used in the preparation of IV admixture products.
- Knowledge of drug names and therapeutic uses.
- National Certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
