About the Team

Uber's Finance Data Platform team builds and operates the foundational data products that power Uber's financial and profitability insights. We produce trusted, reconciled, and scalable financial and performance metrics used across all of Uber's Lines of Business (LOBs) and Products.

Our datasets and metrics sit at the core of how Uber understands business performance today and plans for tomorrow: they support reporting, forecasting, profitability analyses, investment cases, and future capital allocation decisions. We partner closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, Product, Data, and Operations teams to ensure stakeholders have a single source of truth for financial and profitability performance.

About the Role

As an App Developer / Data Analyst II on the Finance Data Platform team, you will use data to shape how Uber measures and understands business performance and profitability. You will own key financial and profitability metrics, build scalable reporting and analytical views, and deliver insights that directly influence strategic decisions and capital allocation across Uber.

You will act as a thought partner to Finance, Operations and Product leaders, translating complex financial and operational data into clear stories and recommendations, and helping ensure that decisions are anchored on high-quality, consistent metrics. You will also help design GenAI-powered self-serve tools that allow internal customers to get fast, intuitive answers from Finance Data Platform data and metrics.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Finance, FP&A, Accounting, Product, Operations, and Data Science teams to deeply understand how Uber measures revenue, costs, margins, and profitability across LOBs, products, and geographies.
  • Own and refine core financial and profitability metric definitions (e.g., revenue, variable cost, contribution margin, unit economics) and ensure they are consistently implemented and well documented across dashboards and data products.
  • Design, build, and maintain curated data models, views, and dashboards that provide a single source of truth for business performance analyses and financial reporting.
  • Design and iterate on GenAI-powered self-serve analytics tools (e.g., natural-language query interfaces, chat-based explainers) that help internal customers quickly get answers and explanations from Finance Data Platform metrics.
  • Analyze large-scale financial and operational datasets to identify trends, drivers, and anomalies in revenue, cost, profitability, and efficiency.
  • Support strategic planning and capital allocation processes by providing data-driven insights on business performance, ROI, and investment trade-offs.
  • Partner with Finance and Product teams to define and track KPIs for new products, features, and business initiatives, ensuring that performance is measured consistently over time.
  • Improve metric quality and reliability by collaborating with data engineers and finance stakeholders on data pipelines, controls, and reconciliation between financial systems and analytical datasets.
  • Communicate complex analyses, assumptions, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative and business field.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including experience working with large-scale analytical data warehouses and complex joins/transformations.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or analysis language such as Python or R for deeper analysis, automation, and data quality checks.
  • Experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports in a modern BI tool (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI) for Finance or business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous problems, define and operationalize metrics, and design analyses end-to-end.
  • Strong communication and data storytelling skills, with the ability to explain complex financial and technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive alignment on recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or working closely with Finance, FP&A, or Accounting teams in a data or analytics capacity.
  • Clear understanding of financial concepts such as revenue recognition, cost allocation, unit economics, contribution margin, forecasting, and capital allocation.
  • Experience working with financial data models and reconciliations between source systems (e.g., billing, payments, ledgers, ERP) and analytical layers.
  • Experience supporting planning, forecasting, or performance management processes with data and metrics.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, prioritize among competing tasks, and drive complex, multi-stakeholder projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
