Hypervisors are currently the most widely protected workload on the Rubrik platform. You and the team's work will make a huge impact for our customers and for Rubrik as we are building a world class data management platform to help manage and protect customer data on hypervisor and host.
You will be part of a dynamic team that is solving the toughest engineering problems in building large scale distributed systems that are serving both cloud and on-prem protection.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who has a strong technical background and has worked on platforms and infrastructure in the past. We value managers who provide guidelines to their team and play a supporting role but give folks the space to take ownership of their work.
You will be responsible for driving your team and working closely with multiple product areas that the Hypervisor platform supports. You will set clear goals and direction for your team and hold them accountable to achieve this and lift the bar on engineering excellence. You'll help grow the team and support each individual's growth and career objectives. You'll help the team understand the business objectives and translate them into a technical roadmap and list of priorities. As part of this, you'll partner with various stakeholders across different organizations in Rubrik .
This role is based in Bangalore, India, as part of a new Hypervisor team we are building in-region. You will report into a manager based in Palo Alto, US, with engineers on the team based in India, so experience working with distributed teams and multiple timezones is ideal.
What you'll do
- Derive and drive the roadmap with key stakeholders
- Diagnose and resolve obstacles that block the team from delivering quality software
- Champion continuous improvement, a customer-first mindset, and engineering excellence
- Apply first-principles thinking to help the team work through complex technical problems
- Distill complex, ambiguous situations into actionable plans for your team
- Represent the customer's perspective, anticipate how they're impacted by what you build, and work to enable their success
- Build and lead a team of engineers in India, establishing Rubrik's Hypervisor engineering presence in Bangalore, and collaborate closely with Hypervisor engineering in U.S.
- Enable the team to self-organize and sustain high velocity and predictability
- Grow employees through career development, coaching, and mentoring
- Provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans, goal-setting, evaluations, and collaboration with employees on their objectives
Experience & qualifications you'll need
- BS CS/EE or equivalent with 10+ years of industry experience, of which 3+ years is in Engineering Management; MS or PhD is a plus
- Experience with on prem and SaaS enterprise software development.
- Experience with distributed systems, availability, performance optimization on both on-prem and Saas platforms.
- Experience running engineering storage, compute and infrastructure teams that work on SaaS and On-prem enterprise platforms
- Experience hiring and developing teams within an existing organization to work side-by-side with other teams
- Developing team identity, empowering direct reports and building career growth options for your team
- Experience working directly with customers and vendors
- Experience building and cultivating strong engineering practices and processes
