Accountabilities:

    The Sales Tax Accountant will oversee sales and use tax compliance activities, support tax reporting accuracy, and collaborate with internal teams to strengthen financial processes.

    • Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
    • Maintain sales tax registrations, permits, and business licenses while ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
    • Monitor tax deadlines and coordinate timely, accurate tax payments and reporting.
    • Research and interpret state and local sales tax regulations, identifying changes that may impact business operations.
    • Monitor nexus requirements and evaluate potential new tax obligations as business activities expand.
    • Review sales transactions to ensure proper taxability decisions and exemption handling.
    • Maintain exemption certificates and supporting compliance documentation.
    • Respond to tax notices, inquiries, and assessments from tax authorities.
    • Support sales tax audits by preparing documentation and coordinating responses.
    • Prepare sales tax reports, analyses, and compliance summaries to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
    • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and IT teams to improve tax reporting and operational workflows.
    • Support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of tax automation tools and ERP systems.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, increase efficiency, and improve reporting accuracy.
    • Requirements:

      The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting and sales tax compliance, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

      • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
      • Experience preparing and filing multi-state sales and use tax returns.
      • Experience working with accounting systems and tax compliance software.
      • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience analyzing large datasets and using pivot tables.
      • Ability to research, interpret, and apply sales tax regulations.
      • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
      • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
      • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
      • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
      • Preferred experience with automated tax platforms such as Avalara, Vertex, or Sovos.
      • Preferred experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or SAP.
      • Preferred experience supporting sales tax audits and nexus analyses.
