About the Role
The Lead Tax Strategist is a subject matter expert who applies advanced accounting principles to analyze complex financial information and prepare comprehensive financial reports. This role involves preparing corporate entity and partnership returns, as well as personal and business income tax returns and statements for audits. The advisor is responsible for the preparation, submission, and management of tax statements and returns for businesses and clients. They provide expert financial and tax advice, requiring in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, laws, and acts. The advisor is expected to drive and enhance continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging their expertise to optimize processes and outcomes. Manage office staffing, operations & logistics for an assigned office(s).
- Prepare complex tax statements, financial statements, and Business Activity Statements (BAS) at required intervals with a high degree of accuracy and expertise
- Create and return statements and documents to clients by set deadlines, ensuring compliance and client satisfaction
- Prepare business income tax returns and statements for audits, demonstrating advanced knowledge of audit processes and requirements
- Manage tax administration responsibilities for assigned accounts, including in-depth tax code research, tax return preparation, and strategic tax planning
- Identify opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions and credits, providing strategic and innovative tax advice to clients
- Engage regularly with clients, maintaining and strengthening relationships through exceptional service and communication
- Stay current with federal and state tax laws, regulatory and compliance requirements, and tax planning techniques. Regularly research financial landscapes and market trends to provide informed and strategic advice
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis of accounts for assigned lines of business. Validate the accuracy of data from subsystems and perform follow-up and resolution of identified issues
- Respond to tax-related inquiries and assist in tax audits, providing expert guidance and support
- Drive and enhance continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging expertise to optimize processes and outcomes
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience• 8 years Minimum Related Work Experience• Minimum of 8 years accounting experience• Minimum of 5-year business tax/entity returns experience• Experience with GAAP - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles • Advance experience with integrated online accounting applications• Advance Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Demonstrated critical thinking skills • Highly skilled handle multiple tasks and project simultaneously • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines • Familiarity with bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, and database management. Ability to adapt to new tools and automation. • Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment, Income Tax Course or Equivalent and Tax Accountant Assessment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PeopleSoft general ledger and query preferred
- Possessing strong knowledge of tax law and statutory regulations
- Prior team lead/management experience.
