This is an exciting new role within Collins and a unique opportunity to be part of the ASG electric thrust reverser actuation centre of excellence, working as part of a team of technical innovators in the development of new technologies to position the business for success on the next generation of aerospace nacelle actuation. The position will be located within a new bespoke facility in Wolverhampton.
Reporting to the ASG-UK Site Lead – Chief Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering test evidence across prototype, qualification, and in-service phases for next-generation aerospace systems.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Test Engineer within Aerostructures UK you will be a key contributor to the generation of test evidence for the entire product life cycle from prototype, through qualification, to in-service support, demonstrating compliance to our internal and customer requirements.
In this role you will be responsible for the planning, readiness activities, execution, and reporting of prototype and qualification testing through strong technical knowledge and excellent organisational skills. The quality of functional deliverables, adherence to procedures and process are key aspects of the role.
In addition, you will collaborate across a multi-functional, multi-national team and work with internal and external customers during all phases of design, integration, test and production.
You will support new business opportunities and develop key customer relationships. You will also support the development of the engineering strategy, including a technology roadmap and new business opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Awareness and involvement in all aspects of EH&S within the test environment.
- Drive good housekeeping standards.
- Interpretation of customer requirements into test definitions and formal test procedures for prototype and qualification tests.
- Generation and issue of qualification/prototype test documentation.
- Creating and executing test procedures on prototype hardware, in advance of design completion.
- Generation of test equipment definitions to support prototype and qualification test activities.
- Sourcing and management of external suppliers, including test facilities, and equipment suppliers.
- Setting up tests, build of test units and mounting units in test rigs.
- Commissioning and validation of test equipment.
- Performing functional acceptance tests of prototype units.
- Perform qualification testing, monitoring and recording appropriate data throughout.
- Reviewing test data against test requirements, and reporting test outcomes.
- Supporting failure investigations and driving corrective actions.
- Deliver and present results through clear written and oral communication.
- Coordination of off-site testing including transportation, assembly and commissioning of all necessary support equipment.
- Oversight of external test house operations and performance of functional tests during off-site testing.
- Supporting the maintenance of internal standard work and processes.
- Collaborate across the team to identify synergies, best practices, and opportunities.
- The role will be based in a new Collins Aerospace facility in Wolverhampton, UK, with <10% international travel.
What You Must Have
- Qualified to degree-level in mechanical or electrical engineering or appropriate experience within the discipline.
- Demonstrated development/test engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of electro-mechanical actuation and sensors.
- Experience in supporting failure investigations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to a wide range of audiences.
- A passion for self-development and engineering excellence within a team.
Desirable skills:
- Experience of aerospace qualification testing & reporting.
- Generation of test execution documentation.
- Able to contribute to conceptual test planning.
- Execution planning of documentation and testing to support project milestones.
- Management of qualification testing (onsite & offsite).
