The Position

Position summary: Lead and manage the Payroll, Time & Benefits Operations team in line with Roche People Practices by overseeing end-to-end payroll/time/benefits processes and people leadership; ensuring KPI-driven, compliant service delivery and regular operational reviews with stakeholders; continuously improving and standardizing/automating processes for service excellence and a consistent customer experience; leveraging data analytics and reporting on customer queries to generate people insights for business and P&C (e.g., policy/program design, behavior change, employee relationship management); developing team members’ knowledge and capabilities to retain and grow talent; sustaining win-win relationships and performance management with external vendors; and initiating/participating in squads to deliver required business outcomes in alignment with the overall People Support Solutions (PSS) strategy and advanced technology.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Payroll, Time & Benefits team in line with Roche Leadership Commitments, People Practices, and operating principles: build a strong, values-based, and competitive team; drive engagement, retention, and talent management (incl. succession and compensation decisions); foster a safe, trusting, and growth‑mindset culture; and maintain frequent check‑ins on Career, Capabilities, Connections, and Contributions.

  • Ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery for Pay, Time & Benefits: lead end‑to‑end operations to meet KPIs/SLAs and regulatory requirements, guarantee E2E ownership of resolutions, set and monitor team work plans and resource allocation, maintain/audit SWIs and standards, manage customer satisfaction and concerns, and drive a strong quality mindset.

  • Drive continuous service improvement and transition: identify and execute standardization, automation, and simplification initiatives based on KPIs, customer feedback, and best practices; provide proactive service insights to stakeholders; and ensure successful “build side” of service transitions through proper resource planning, staffing, and site/function readiness.

  • Collaborate cross‑functionally and globally to achieve the PSS vision: partner with regional/global PSS peers, governance, and other service teams (Advisory, PST, ELM, PR&R, HRIT/PI&T, and CI Initiative) to ensure globally consistent services, effective E2E processes, improved employee experience, participation in networks/projects/squads, and contribution to global service delivery initiatives from an operations perspective.

  • Manage external vendors by defining and tracking performance KPIs, regularly assessing and reviewing vendor performance, and driving continuous improvement in vendor-delivered services.

Who you are:

  • Experienced people leader with a proven track record leading teams (ideally in HR services) and managing change initiatives, able to credibly represent the PSS vision and “the why," influence and partner with key stakeholders across functions and levels, and lead virtually across borders in fast‑paced, ambiguous, multicultural environments with multiple competing priorities.

  • Strong customer‑centric, end‑to‑end mindset: lives customer centricity in daily interactions (needs anticipation and cultural awareness); demonstrates E2E accountability (big‑picture and impact understanding and engaging others); has strong problem‑solving ability (active listening, critical thinking, and process improvement); and has a growth mindset (experimentation, continuous learning, and feedback).

  • Deep functional and technical expertise in Pay, Time & Benefits: 5+ years of payroll/time/benefits experience (incl. 2+ years leading a team), plus HR experience in specific areas (e.g., HR Service Desk, Personnel Administration/OM, Training Admin, HR Systems Support a plus); maintains a profound understanding of systems/technologies in this space, good knowledge of Workday HR processes, CRM/request management software, and standard IT tools (preferably Google Workspace).

  • Strong service and process management capabilities: optimizes standard system interfaces to reduce data control issues and improve control structures; leads teams through legal entity acquisitions and corporate initiatives to ensure rapid implementation; maintains close links between employees, corporate finance, HR/P&C, and payroll vendors for aligned, efficient payroll procedures; streamlines processes; eliminates waste; executes and evaluates internal controls to minimize operational risks; and applies strong analytical and pragmatic thinking to requests.

  • Fluent in English (Portuguese a plus) with excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, solid service management experience, good understanding of relevant federal/state/local/country‑specific laws and regulations in supported regions, and the ability to thrive and collaborate effectively with diverse, cross‑functional teams and leaders.

Please note: Resumes must be submitted in English, as our interview panel may include participants from outside your local country.
