Operation Hero Facilitator

The Armed Services YMCA is looking for an enthusiastic individual to work in our Operation Hero After-school program. This program addresses life situations and issues faced by military children. Facilitators work with children in grades from second to fifth at Fort Bliss Elementary School. Facilitators will work the complete school year, receiving 6 hours weekly during operation of session 

Weekly Schedule: Tuesday(s) and Thursday(s) from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm while Operation HERO is in session 

Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate the Operation Hero program for military-connected children in grades 2–5, adhering to the ten-week schedule and twice-weekly sessions 

  • Implement engaging, hands-on learning opportunities based on provided lesson plans, adapting them to meet the individual needs of participants 

  • Work with the Programs Manager to acquire suitable resources for the program’s duration including a low-cost snack following ASYMCA guidelines 

  • Ensure all necessary program materials and supplies are available and properly utilized for each lesson 

  • Maintain a consistent daily routine, including attendance, snack time, team-building activities, lesson activities, and homework/enrichment time, while reporting any significant changes to the Program Manager 

  • Accurately record daily attendance, including student check-in and parent sign-out, using designated forms 

  • Carry a cell phone and first aid kit during program hours. Implement and follow health and safety policies as outlined in the manual 

  • Implement and adhere to the child behavior policy, redirecting inappropriate behavior, resolving issues, and documenting concerns via behavior reports when necessary 

  • Assist in distributing marketing and registration materials and help advertise the program to military families within the community 

  • Support coordination with school staff and other partners to ensure smooth program operation 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Programs Manager to ensure excellence in delivery of the program 

Training/Orientation/Background Screening 

  • Facilitators are required to complete ASYMCA and Fort Bliss CYS Background Screenings 

  • Great Academy Training 

Education: 

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required. 

Experience: 

  • Experience with school-aged children is required.
