If you are looking to stretch and grow your career our culture will embrace you. Open up opportunities with HPE.Job Description:   Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Large-Scale Integrated Photonics (LSIP) Lab at Hewlett Packard Labs has an opening for a qualified Research Scientist to contribute to externally funded research projects in neuromorphic and photonic computing, with a primary focus on HPE Belgium’s EU projects developing optical spiking neural networks for applications such as radar processing, optical communication, high-energy physics and medical imaging.This role will help develop next-generation photonic and hybrid photonic-electronic computing systems, with particular emphasis on neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, and application-driven research.  Depending on the candidate's profile, the work may emphasize photonic hardware, integrated device and system concepts, optical spiking neural networks, or the design and application of neuromorphic and event-driven algorithms and architectures.The successful candidate will identify and develop promising application areas for spiking and neuromorphic approaches, connect these applications to computational bottlenecks and system requirements, and contribute to proof-of-concept demonstrations, scientific publications, and collaborative project deliverables. The role requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team spanning photonics, analog and mixed-signal electronics, machine learning, software, and systems research.In our team, software for design, experimentation, and data analysis is primarily written in Python, so a strong hands-on background in Python is highly valuable.Qualifications and Education RequirementsPhD degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.Strong background in one or more of the following areas: integrated photonics, photonic systems, photonic computing, neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, or event-driven computing.Stellar peer-reviewed publication record in a relevant field is essential.Ability to contribute to cutting-edge research spanning theory, system design, modeling, experimental validation, and application development.Team player, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a multidisciplinary research environment.Strong writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.Preferred SkillsExperience with algorithm-hardware co-design of emerging hardware accelerators based on analog electronics or photonics.Expertise in integrated photonics, photonic circuit and system design, photonic computing, or optical neural/spiking network concepts.Expert in recent machine learning techniques. More specifically, experience in neuromorphic computing, spiking neural networks, event-driven processing, or application-driven AI system design.Experience with quantum dot lasers, resonant tunneling diodes, optical and electronic memristors, or similar are relevant.Ability to translate advanced research concepts into impactful use cases and demonstrators.Strong Python programming...
